New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just finished Sneaky Pete on Amazon. I liked it a lot. Giovani Ribisi plays his usual likable guy who's hard on his luck as a con man that needs to hide and pretends to be a long lost relative to a family he only knew through stories.

It was a nice quick binge watch over the course of a few days.

Is Twin Peaks any good?

Twin Peaks was an experience. Best way to put it. First season was actually really good. Second season was way too long and had a large drop off in terms of quality due to Lynch not being as involved anymore in the writing/directing/creative process. There was nothing even remotely close to it on television at the time, though, so it will always be a cult show.

I absolutely cannot wait for season 3. It'll be amazing.

Watched Frontier. Do not understand how it has such bad ratings.

I've been thinking about shows the last few days, because a lot of people I meet ask what I watch. I realized there's this lump at the top, and then a big gap.

Bob's Burgers/Peaky Blinders/House of Cards/Daredevil/OITNB/Designated Survivor/BCS

Everything else I watch. And it's really not close, and I feel it's strange.

First season is delightfully weird and camp in all the right ways. I haven't seen season 2 but I'm told it's pretty bad.

Sneaky Pete was really solid. I went in with low expectations and it exceeded them by a lot.

That's good to hear. I am interested in trying it but the ratings have prevented me from checking it out. So I'll give it a go soon.

I really didn't like Twin Peaks. I get why it has appeal to some but I kept falling asleep trying to watch it. To each their own.

It's very slow. But it's a methodical slow.

Completely agree with this. Highly recommend watching the first season - only 8 episodes at around 45 minutes per episode. If you enjoy it then I recommend that you continue.

The second season has some challenges because of Lynch, the network, and media/ culture at the time. From the beginning media outlets were skeptical of the eccentric Lynch being able to do a TV show under the confines of what TV shows were expected to be in 1990. So since day one there was some pressure to conform and resolve mysteries like Columbo, and between season one and season two the network forced Lynch and Frost towards more resolution. Lynch and Frost were more about an immersive journey, in my opinion, and they disengaged during season two. This makes season two choppy. Still if you enjoy season one and plan to watch the new season, which I expect to be closer to season one in quality, then I recommend watching season two.

I thought it was just trying too hard to be weird for the sake of being weird most of the time, which is kind of a running theme in many of Lynch's movies as well.

Always felt like Lynch really was that weird. Never felt it was done for the sake of it. Lynch imitators always give me that feeling though. My boy David is the genuine article.

Man, Always Sunny has an absolutely amazing teaser this week, but the actual episode just wasn't that good.

I did love...
Dee: Is that why you went to Bed, Bath and Beyond?
Dennis: Yes, bitch.

Thanks for the responses re: Twin Peaks

I actually already finished Season 1 last night. What a weird, unique, yet entertaining show. I found myself cringing at times but I was definitely intrigued throughout.

Bummed to hear that Season 2 kinda sucks but I'll watch regardless just to get ready for Season 3.

Is the movie essential to the storyline?

What I remember is ABC playing up the "Who killed Laura Palmer?" angle even though the show was never really supposed to be about the murder of Laura Palmer, except as an introduction to whatever the main themes of the show were supposed to be. The network just didn't know what to do with it. As you said, ABC wanted to shoehorn it into a conventional murder mystery mold and it was so much more than that.

In retrospect it's a shame "Twin Peaks" didn't come along a little later on cable. One can only imagine how good that show could have been had it come out on HBO in the late '90s.

Tried to watch season 2 and I couldn't get through the first episode. Brutal. Just decided to read what happened. I'll watch the movie soon.
