New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So it's my birthday next week and my fiancé is hounding me to give her gift ideas. Call me crazy, but I've never actually seen 'The Office' in full. Recommended birthday gift (the box set) on a scale of 1 to 100?

I wouldn't get the Office as a box set especially since it's on Netflix. I feel like HBO shows are really the only stuff worth getting on box sets because not everyone subscribes to HBO so you can let people borrow it.

It may not be on Netflix in Australia, as Netflix content is regional.

Oh I didn't realize he was in Australia. From what I understand, Netflix hasn't been able to push into Australia as easily as everywhere else.

Yeah I was about to make a similar comment to yours but then I saw it was Simmy and have no idea what the Netflix situation is there.

Either way, The Office is a great show and I'd consider it a must-watch American comedy along with Arrested Development, Always Sunny, Silicon Valley, and a handful of others.

Wings and an extra blowie, IMO

I just finished The Office from start to finish this past week for at least the 5th time. They are funny with tons of characters that add to it in a way where you don't notice all the jokes each time you watch. There are parts towards the end that aren't the best, but there are plenty of funny parts even in those. In addition, you really get emotionally involved in the characters, so by the end...you're invested in what happens with them.

It was kind of weird when Stringer Bell showed up and started running the office in that later season. Even weirder that his character was actually less likable than the scheming, back-stabbing drug kingpin he played on The Wire. :chuckle:

100. But also remember the first season I weak so don't give up

Yeah man, unfortunately only the UK version is available on my Australian Netflix. I guess I could use a VPN but it’s a bit of screwing around and the box set is on sale for like $90 AUD ($64 USD) anyway.

Think I’ll tell her to get it for me. I also read online that the first season was a bit of a slog but I’m happy to power through for the comedic value and emotional investment I’m hearing about a little later in the series.

Thanks all for your feedback!

No joke I tried over a dozen times to watch the first ep of season 2 the wire but couldn't pay 10 minutes of attention, so I transitioned to the sopranos and it's infinitely easier.

The psychologist appointments are silly af and cliche and unrealistic tho

Just push through. Season two is the best season imo, but I really struggled with it the first time through. It's worth it. Seasons three and four are amazing. Their depiction of the failings of our public school system in season four is absolutely incredible, and season three does a similar critique of the failings of the drug war (which is kind of the point of the whole show, but season three focuses most on it).

So after re-watching The Wire, the best show of all time, instead of catching up on the three dozen shows I'm behind on, my dumb ass decided to start re-watching The Shield, the second best show of all time.

It's still pretty fucking good. Season one is a bit of a slog at times, but holy shit season two doesn't fuck around. Can't wait until seasons four and five.

Have you ever read The Force by Don Winslow? The general plot setup is along similar lines to The Shield, and apparently the guy who did Logan is adapting it to a film.
