What exactly makes Kleber a certified winner?
He contributes to winning as an elite role player. He hustles. Is an absolutely underrated defender and spacer. I would argue the most underrated player in the game right now.

Is Kleber really an elite role player when he shot 32.5% from three on the season? That's what he's supposed to be good at and he wasn't all that good at it most of the season. Sure he had some really good games in the playoffs, but wouldn't you rather have a guy like Christian Wood spacing the floor who shot 39% from three last year on more attempts? He'll probably shoot an even better percentage this upcoming year now that he has Luka drawing so much defensive attention and he's off of that awful Rockets team. If I'm a contending team who needs a big man that can shoot, I take Wood over Kleber all day because not only is he a better shooter, he can provide more on offense than just catching and shooting if need be. Wood definitely makes the Mavs better than they were before the deal imo

Wood is more versatile on offense. I won't argue that. And he has been a better shooter outside the no fans years.

However, maxi is a super versatile defender. He can bang with bigs, switch out on guards and wings, hedge, drop, weakside shotblock. Wood can sometimes get highlight blocks but he is an indifferent defender at best.

In a vacuum, I would argue that alone makes Maxi more valuable. However this is the Mavs and you have a goddamn red giant in Luka at the center of your offense. Shot creation out of your bigs is a nice bonus but not something you really need.

Overall, I really like the trade for Dallas. A 3 big rotation of wood/maxi/powell is solid and they all have different roles and can play with each other. But if im closing with one of those 3 or forced to pick just one, its maxi.

Warriors left kebler alone to shoot threes and he hesitated to shoot. Woods is a more dynamic player and would be a better target for luka.

Come on though, offensively dominant players like Luka seriously benefit from having another offensive threat and shooter on the floor with them, especially if they are great passers like Luka. Lebron benefited enormously from having Kyrie. I’m excited to see this Dallas team with Wood - their offense should be more interesting than “Luka isolates or else pass it around the perimeter”, and if they can get Wood to buy in on defense they could challenge the Warriors

Yeah exactly there’s only so much you can do in the NBA when surrounded by “versatile role players”. Luka needs guys that other teams have to guard to take the pressure off him even if they are slightly worse at defense.

And who knows Wood has never been in a position to play in games that actually mattered, maybe he’ll step up the defense.

It’s like saying “oh Lebron would have been better off with Delly and Tristan Thompson rather then Kyrie and Love because they play harder and defend better”

Nothing i have read about or seen from Wood suggests he is going to magically lock in on D and suddenly develop high IQ there.

Again, I think his skillset is a good compliment to the Dallas roster overall and Luka in particular. He just is not as valuable as an elite two way defensive big who moves the ball and can fit in on any role on D and O. Doesn't mean he is worthless.

Dunno where you get this idea that Kleber is an “elite 2 way big” when he literally went scoreless in a game and had two games where he shot like 1-5 in the series against the warriors.

Again I like Kleber, great player. But Wood is definitely an upgrade and a couple tiers above him

By paying attention to the other 70+ games he played this season. A few games does not a trend make

Man out here calling German Dean Wade an elite 2 way player. What a weird day.

Come on now. It's the offseason. We have to fend off boredom with these deep cuts.
