Offseason Rumors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The article states Red Sox would probably pay some of Castillo's salary. I'll post when I have a sec, working on about 5 different things at the moment :chuckle:

Even if they did, it makes no sense that the narrative for the Indians all of a sudden changed...we heard a few weeks ago that the Indians were "tapped out" salary wise, specifically as it related to Austin Jackson, yet they are going to trade for a guy with 5 years and ~60 million left on his deal? I don't buy it. More big markets tossing stuff at the wall trying to link them to our SP.

Lasting concerns with Lonnie Chisenhall?

Now that's interesting...lasting concerns as in his current health issue or his production?

Replacing Lonnie with Bradley Jr. is something I can get behind. I'd be good with Bradley Jr. if Lonnie wasn't on the team. Pretty much a wash defensively, but Bradley Jr. can play all 3 spots as a + defender, which is rare, but its still the same ? about what you are getting from them offensively. Now, if they did that, I wonder if the Cubs still have some interest in Lonnie or if it died and went away when they brought back Fowler...

JBJ makes perfect sense to me. Elite defense w a questionable bat that has shown a few short flashes but nothing sustained. More or less CF version of Lonnie but w way more upside.

Plus it lets Zimmer slide into RF next year.

Could it get done for Bauer and Naquin or something of that sort?

That seems like a massive overpay

No way...I'd take Naquin over Bradley in CF for this current team...only way I bring in Bradley Jr. is if Lonnie is no longer on the team and he can play RF with Byrd or whoever the hell we keep as our 5th OF.

I would hope. He has never been consistent with the bat, has not shown much power and isn't hitting for shit this spring. We also don't know if his defense was a fluke of a small sample size or if he really is the 2nd best defensive RFer in baseball while essentially winging it.

We know Bradley is Gold Glove caliber in CF and it allows Naquin to be a good RF instead of an average CF defensively. I feel much better about a Davis-Naquin platoon at only 1 position too.

I don't think the gap between him and Naquin in CF is as big as you'd think, in the current day, defensively.

As for the bolded...and Bradley Jr. has? I really want to stay away from a guy who slashed .196/.268/.280 in his first 164 games, and was putting up the same numbers last year until he had out of body experience in August, sandwiched with a typical shitty September for him. He's a wash with Lonnie, at best, and Lonnie has proven way, way more at the dish than Bradley Jr. has...but if there are concerns with Lonnie, health wise, I'd be for the move.

Not really an offseason rumor, but more of what I want to happen or what makes sense at the deadline, to me.

@AZ_ could you see the FO having interest in Josh Reddick at the deadline if they are in position to contend and RF is still a problem at the plate? He is the #1 target I keep coming back to in who the Indians could acquire for OF help. Free agent after this season, which usually results in Beane moving guys if they aren't in it, has played for Tito, adds some slugging...I just keep thinking they are going to try to acquire him at some point this year because he makes too much sense...

He meets the criteria, to be sure. Lonnie has to step it up this year of he's going to be on the DFA bubble.

Sadly, I think you are right...I think if Naquin produces more at the dish than Lonnie, Lonnie is gone...too similar of a bat profile, but Lonnie has less versatility in the field.

But man, Reddick would look really good in this lineup vs RHP IMO.

To me Naquin is a hidden gem. I think he will be better than we even think. He has that something that a MLB team needs. That something Lonnie does not and this is no a knock on Lonnie. I am High on Naquin and half the people and fans I talked to tell me "how good the young guy looks" I have to keep telling them his name. So he is catching eyes.

Korean OF Hyun Soo Kim is signing with the Orioles for a relatively cheap rate.

If you want to rightfully complain about something, this is the type of deal where the Indians could/might have been involved and came up short.

Dropped the ball here. They gave a formerly speedy OFer 5.25 mil for one year while a 27 year old transplant got 3.5m per for two. I was hoping the 'new' FO would be at least a little more open but I guess I was wrong.

Thoughts? Could they send him back to Korea if he declines? Does he become a free agent again? Weird situation. Both him and Castillo probably starting in AAA for their teams...crazy.

Turns out he's garbage, so call this one a win for Cleveland.

It's been weird to see the difference to adjusting to the American game between him and Park...Park looks terrific, Kim looks terrible.
