"Ohio" Hollywood movie being made about Kent St shootings.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I heard something about this last year hopefully they'll do justice to the situation

The biggest justice they can do is drop Zac Efron and Justin Timberlake's name from the movie.

They can scew this up in two ways.
1. Making it a musical.
2. Making it over dramatic, like explosions, artillery fire, tanks, machine gun nests. While only 4 people died, and at the end, place a National Guard Memorial. That actually sounds like a good movie lol

Neither of those will happen.

Hmmm... how much you wanna bet they spend 15 minutes on the actual event and the other 75 or so minutes on a Zac Efron/love interest storyline?

While I feel that prediction seems to be selling Hollywood a bit short, look at Titanic and Pearl Harbor.

My now deceased uncle was there. And he happened to be at every major riot that happened in the Akron or Cleveland area around that time. I'm pretty sure he caused every one of them, which is why he ended up dead due to a "house fire" that was never investigated.

God this sounds fucking retarded. a shooting that happened 40 years ago, which was politically charged and has virtually no connection to current events. What possible connection could the creators hope to make with current audiences? Just seems like a whole unnecessary, and uninteresting waste of time.

Yep. History is so gay.

Regards,

The declaration of independence.
Civil War
Vietnam
WWI
WWII
Korean War

Not casting stones, but your post paints a very ignorant picture. It was one of the most dramatic moments in US history and really brought this nation together. Argue about the casting? Fine by me. But don't post ignorant shit. Based on your comments why make a movie about anything?

IF they go Pearl Harbor style, I will go apeshit.

BTW, Timberlake isn't a bad actor by any means. I know who Efron is but have never seen him play anything. Just know he does musicals. Which is cool, I guess:gayfite:

Hopefully they show the full story, not just what happened on May 4th.

You're comparing Kent State to WW2?

I don't know, I know it was important, and I was a bit drunk when I wrote my last post, so it was probably a little over-the-top. But I mean really, what happened at Kent State is a small part of the Vietnam War protests in general. I just don't see the Kent State events being able to carry an entire flick. I also don't see any audience interest there, other than perhaps old-time hippies wanting to relieve the glory years.

Now, a flick that encompassed the entire anti-war movement and spent a good-bit of time focusing on Kent State could be interesting. But that's not what this sounds like.

I'm not trying to discount the importance of that history, but do you really think a Zac Effron / Justin Timberlake flick will do the history any justice? I have my doubts.

You cannot compare one piece of history to the other. Your arguments towards the casting is valid, especially Efron. JT has actually been a decent actor (Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan to name a few). But if it does go Pearl Harbor, I will be extremely pissed. Keep it factual. This is the type of movie Oliver Stone was born to direct, not Bay.

Hmmmm...

1970:
- US in an economic recession
- Unpopular war going on for years longer than initially thought.
- Widespread/growing public distrust in Government.

...Nope, no connection there at all.

So will Effron be playing Ms. Scheier or Ms. Krause?

You people actually think there's the slightest chance this might be made into a Disney channel musical movie? A lot of actors come through the Disney pipeline and both Timberlake(Black Snake Moan, Alpha Dog) and Efron(Me and Orson Welles) have had serious acting roles before and done pretty well. There are better young actors and there's no way to say if this will be good or not, but good movies have been made about less important events with lesser known actors.

Besides, a scary amount of people outside of Ohio don't know where Kent State is or what happened there in 1970. Even if they have to be lured in by dreamy actors and tricked into learning some history, I'm all for it.
