On The Clock: 2017 RCF NFL Mock Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damnit, that was my pick.

Give me like 10 mins.

Sorry, getBUCKED lost steam on picking and I gave him fair value back. I had no way of knowing who you wanted next. If it makes you feel better, Blake Bortles is available.

18. Pat Mahomes - QB - Texas Tech
33. Obi Melifonwu - S - Connecticut
52. Kevin King - CB - Washington
65. Kareem Hunt - RB - Toledo
83. George Kittle - TE - Iowa

142. Ryan Glasgow - DL - Michigan
145. Jerome Lane - WR - Akron
175. Samson Ebukam - OLB/DE - Eastern Washington

With the 181st pick in the RCF Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select:

MARQUEZ WHITE - CB - FLORIDA STATE

HT: 6' WT: 194LBS.

OVERVIEW
A two-sport athlete, White played with the basketball Seminoles for six games in the 2013-2014 season. He quickly decided, however, that football was his best future profession. White was primarily played as a reserve and special teamer in 25 games in 2013 (12 tackles) and 2014 (three tackles). He earned a starting spot for all 13 games as a junior (25 tackles, two for loss, one interception, and two pass breakups). White was also a 13-game starter and honorable mention All-ACC from league media pick in 2016, intercepting two passes and breaking up four passes.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Spies quarterback from quarters coverage and drives early to underneath routes. Shows good awareness of routes around him. Willing to overlap his coverage responsibilities from off-man. Long arms and big hands. Jams with quick reaction time post-snap. Looks to land punch on inside shoulder. Crowds the outside release. Held opponents to completion percentage of just 32.1 percent in 2015. Allowed just one touchdown over last two seasons as field corner.

WEAKNESSES

Skinny and plays with a narrow base throughout the rep. Obvious balance issues transitioning from press into his turn. Lacks patience from press. Opens to first fake he sees. Tall, stiff backpedal. Gives away inside leverage, allowing open throwing windows. Poor career ball production with just 11 passes defensed. Slow to get head around to find ball. Delayed stick-and-click burst forward from backpedal. Waits on running backs to bring action to him. Allowed total of eight missed and broken tackles four to just 22 total tackles this season.

BOTTOM LINE

Finesse cornerback with limited ball skills and production as two-year starter. Coverage stats from junior season garnered attention, but his 2016 tape was average, with marginal instincts and coverage inconsistencies from press. Length is a plus and he does have talent, but he needs technique work to iron out some issues.

I've had my eye on this guy for three rounds now, and though I have bigger needs, I think it's time to pull the trigger.

With the 182nd pick in the 2017 RCF Draft, the Green Bay Packers select:
Josh Malone, WR

HT: 6'3" WT: 208LBS.

POSITION: WR

SCHOOL: Tennessee

ARM LENGTH: 31 3/8"

HANDS: 9 5/8"

My Take:
Big body with good speed. I like the idea of taking a wideout with potential and giving him to Aaron Rodgers.

Overview
The Gallatin, Tennessee native made a lot of people happy by staying in-state to play with the Volunteers. The state's Mr. Football was a top-five receiver recruit nationally, and figured he would play right away in Knoxville. Malone was correct, as he started six games in 2014, catching 23 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown. He was a full-time starter as a sophomore (31-405, two TDs) but came into his own in 2016. Tennessee's top receiver caught 50 passes for 972 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final year with the Vols before deciding to join teammates Joshua Dobbs and Alvin Kamara in starting his NFL career.

COMBINE STATS
  • 40 YARD DASH: 4.40 SEC
  • BENCH PRESS: 10 REPS
  • VERTICAL JUMP: 30.5 INCH
  • BROAD JUMP: 121.0 INCH
  • 3 CONE DRILL: 7.05 SEC
  • 20 YARD SHUTTLE: 4.19 SEC
  • 60 YARD SHUTTLE: 11.77 SEC
Draft Outlook:
I am very pleased with my draft thru 5 rounds. I came into the draft with a plan, and executed on it.
  • I wanted to add a high-end pash rusher at the top of the draft. Made the trade with Chicago for Leonard Floyd.
  • Wanted to add weapons for Aaron Rogers. Got two of the WR's that I targeted early on.
  • Didn't want to spend an early pick on RB, had my guy fall to me in the 5th round.
  • Added John Johnson, DB who can theoretically start right away at FS.
  • Got Zach Banner, OL, at a valuable slot. Could start right away, or could suck. Either way I took one of the BPA at position of need.
  • Moved on from Davante Adams. Admittedly, could hurt in the short term. But I wasn't high on his ability, and he was due to get PAID next off-season. Cashed in on him for Leo Floyd, a guy I have high hopes for.
  • Go Cheese!

2017 Draft Incoming Players:
3. Cooper Kupp, WR
4. John Johnson, DB
5. Zach Banner, OL
5. Brandon Wilson, RB
5. Josh Malone, WR
* Traded for: Leonard Floyd, EDGE (2016, 9th overall pick)

2017 Draft Outgoing Players/*Picks:
1. Pick 29 (*Deshaun Watson, QB)
2. Pick 61 (*Quincy Wilson, CB)
* Traded Away: Davante Adams, WR

The Flip side:

Had I not made the trade with Chicago, I probably would have taken Peppers, S in the first and Mixon, RB in the second. That would have been decent, but would have been a reach on both. I like my current end-result better.

You have nothing to be sorry about, it happens. I just got alerted when I was on deck, thinking I was up, so I already had the pick and ideas for what to write (I had actually planned to pick him at 178 if he was available once I made my previous pick).

Soda has already been PMed, it will finish soon. I'll also say this: I will do draft grades for teams that request grades. I'm sure some people don't want to feel judged. Props to @Dog for his post explaining the rationale behind his picks at the end.

Well I want my grade! This is for fun, so may as well be able to take the honest truth!

Doing the 6th, or no?

We have never gone this far before, and if people want to keep it going go ahead and try it... but in two picks we achieved our goal. I feel good about a five round mock draft.

Oh, I know.

Think the last 2 we made it to maybe halfway through the 3rd or 4th. 5th is uncharted territory for us in the first place.

But if people want to keep it going, I'm all for it. We are still 2 weeks away from the real thing, so we still have time to kill.

Im starting to struggle with guys Ive even seen but I could probably figure it out. Also, all in on draft grades.

I'm good with ending it here and letting Draft Pundits mock my draft.

If you have time, I'd definitely take your opinion/grades after we are complete. Frankly, I respect your thoughts. I would be curious to see who you may have tabbed at alternate locations as I had internal debates at a few points myself.

As for a sixth round, I'm at a point where it's difficult for me to track who has been taken. That said, if we start, I'd make an attempt to keep tabs. A clean five rounds does seem pretty damn impressive though, I must say.
