PC Building Crew

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After doing some more research, not sure if I'll be able to build myself a PC after all. I need to buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a desk too which is going to add up to like $1000 or something. Looks like I'll be sticking with consoles....

Game with you TV bro.. Use the same LCD/Plasma you use to play a console..

You can use an Xbox 360 or a PS3 controller on your PC. If the game says "Games for Windows" on the box, the 360 controller will work natively and support is built-in by design; meaning, the game will prompt you to "Press RT to fire!" rather than mapping it to something akin to "Button 7." In this way, the game can be played in it's entirety, from launch to end, via a controller - no keyboard or mouse required.

As far as a keyb/mouse combo, you can buy a cheap wireless setup from Microcenter for $19.99.. It'll get you through boot-up, and allow you to launch your game. At that point, pick up the controller and play on your TV, just as if it were a 360 - but with better graphics, gameplay, mod-ability, etc.

Jon, you seem like a very odd sort of gamer. Throughout this thread you've stated more than once, that you can do without better graphics, better sound, better gameplay, better controls, faster load times, and greater replayability via modding. We talked about every one of these topics, all of them. And each time you said, PC may be better, but console is good enough. But what baffles the mind is, where this threshold of "good enough" exists.

What I mean is that, for a nominal price -I posted a build that includes a 6950 for ~750.00- one can get a grown-man PC for all their work related needs AND get a better than console gaming experience. The alternative of that would be to build a budget PC/laptop for ~400.00 and get a PS3/360 for ~250.00. I mean, the difference is going to be more or less a hundred bucks. Maybe 150 if you skimp on hardware for your PC build. Is that 150 worth missing out on all those features?

And again, I'm not arguing that PCs and consoles are mutually exclusive. I play games on PS3/360 and PC. It just depends. I still play Halo 3 and Halo Wars, which are 360 exclusive titles. I play Street Fighter 3:Third Strike on 360 and PS3 depending upon who's online and what console they have. I play SSFIV:AE on PC.. always.. But I've already gone down this list.

I think what cmstophe is saying is that your point seems hard to understand. What exactly are you advocating? Console gaming as a viable platform?? Nobody is disputing that. We all own consoles. But it seems like you're trying to suggest that somehow consoles are superior to PCs for gaming, without necessarily stepping out and defending that position. And that can be your position, but I don't see a logical reason other than easy of use/setup, and convenience. The economics are roughly equivalent, and technical aspects (including gameplay) are strongly in favor of the more versatile PC. I know you said you got tired of upgrading your hardware, but I'm still running the 5870 (x2) and i bought the first one (of two) when it came out two years ago. I've yet to have a problem getting anything to run at 60 fps on its highest settings (at 1080p, not higher).

Care to comment on why you feel that?

The graphics aren't nearly anywhere as good. It doesn't even come close. While I admire the console's version for being less buggy (doesn't randomly crash, etc.) and the fact that I have more friends that play the game on the console, it's not enough for me to abandon it on the PC. The map sizes are trimmed down, can only have 12 vs. 12 at the most (which isn't a Battlefield game experience), limited to 30 fps, constrained to a controller compared to having a keyboard and mouse where you can program more controls, etc. It's just not as great of a gaming experience on the console versus what the PC can offer. This game should have never been released for the xbox/ps3 because now people are bitching about the game and comparing it Call of Duty when in reality the game is in a league of its own on the PC.

To get back on topic, since this was originally a PC building thread, some recent upgrades I purchased:

and if anyone has it for PC, my origin name is KCOTT04

on xbox live, it's KCOTT

I don't think I've ever bought more than one fan for my PC, and I've never specifically purchased lights for the inside of my PC either ... I'm sure a few people do that, but I don't see how that is even relevant to the thread.

From your earlier posts it seemed you were going after people who simply love building gaming PCs and benchmarking their cards and such.

I suggest you re-read what I wrote then.

The comments I've read indicate the opposite - that it never should have been released as a Battlefield title on the PC, or else called Bad Company 3.

What exactly are you advocating?

I'm not advocating anything. I mentioned that a console nicely avoided issues with video card drivers, obsolescence, and constant upgrade expenses (things which turned me off from PC gaming) and you guys took immediate offense. ;)

Everyone values things differently and has different setups. The fact you keep trying to convince me that I should be gaming on a PC simply shows that you just don't get that. I'm happy with my PC the way it is. I'm happy with my PS3 the way it is. If I decide to buy Battlefield 3, I'll get it for my PS3, I'll just slap in the disc and play it. I won't have to worry how degraded the video will be on my 3 year old PC, I won't have to worry about upgrading that card and messing up my perfectly stable and quiet system, I won't have to worry about how I'm going to get a PS3 controller to work with my PC and whether those 3rd party drivers will be stable, I won't have to worry about how I'm going to get HDMI from my study to my family room, etc, etc, etc.

As long as Battlefield 3 is at least as entertaining as I found Bad Company 1 ... it's all good. Albeit, perhaps not for $60. A game better hit on all cylinders to deserve that much money, and from what I hear the single player mode is much like BC1 in that it's fun but over way too quick. Multiplayer in these types of games never holds my attention for very long, and frankly I'm fine with that. Short term game addiction is far less destructive than long-term.

I'm done with this garbage. Cool story bro.

Anyways... nasty purchase KCOTT. :D

Will post this here too.. maybe someone more knowledgeable will see it:

Alright, I'm considering getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229285

Along with either
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236105

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824262011

Thoughts? I don't game on it (or plan to start), but I buy a computer about once every four or so years, so I need it to be able to last. My Laptop that I use as a desktop is starting to have screen problems, and it buying old as shit, I might as well look to upgrade.

Never heard of HANNspree, but from the listed details it sounds better than the Asus one. Larger screen and a higher resolution, but Asus is also probably a lot more reputable.

Just quickly glanced over the computer, doesn't seem so bad. I don't really know much about AMD/Radeon though, more of an Intel/Nvidia type. You should also check out HP because they have had a lot of good computer deals recently or even God forbid, Dell. I think my brother scored a pretty good deal from them.

You really can't judge without knowing who's glass they're using and how they benchmark, but at under $100 ... who cares? ;)

I spend a lot more than that on a monitor just to make sure that when I tilt my head the colors don't wash out, and the blacks are actually black...
