PC Building Crew

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Meh. Some people are just tech enthusiasts. Why bitch about it.

Why? Exactly because it's tech. Computers are machines meant to do a job. We don't need snake oil salesmen moving in like the audio field has had to deal with for years.

The funny thing is I could play Battlefield 3 on my current equipment. It's well beyond the minimum requirements, and up to snuff on the recommended for everything but the video card. I could blow $700 on a dual video card setup if I felt like it. I'm not constrained to a "budget". My motherboard and PSU can all handle it. I could even buy the game for full price if I felt like it.

I could also start peeling off $100 out of my wallet and throwing them out my door.

It makes about as much sense.

You dont need dual video cards to run it.

You dont need dual video cards to run it.

I know. Like I said, I could run it on the h/w I have now, but if I wanted state of the art dual video cards, I'd go order them. For instance I have well over $1000 invested in my dual monitor setup. So, I don't have a problem blowing money on something that has a return.

Like for instance my PS3 - which I didn't even buy to play games. I bought it as a Blu-Ray player back when the cheapest stand alone player cost more. It's ability to play games was a bonus. Whereas we all know no matter what I spend on a video card, it'll just be obsoleted again in another 1 to 3 years. My PS3? Nope. My monitors? Nope. My CPU and hard drives? Nope.

The economics are just idiotic. There are lots of collateral benefits to having a fast processor, a nice display, a fast disk drive, etc, etc, but the only purpose a high-end graphics card serves is pushing the bleeding edge of gaming - and that's counter to the things I want from my PC (reliable, fast, quiet).

Some people are enthusiasts. I already said that. I'm not. You're not. Why bother bitching about other peoples' hobby. They like their games to look top of the line, bar nothing. Let them have their fun. I like to build rigs every 5 years or so if I have the cash, it's fun and the games look sick on them and run smooth as hell (far more frames per second than anything on console) plus I like to play my RTS and Blizzard games when they come around. I don't consider myself a tech enthusiast though because I don't know a lot and I have to come on forums like this to get help. :chuckles:

Whatevs. We're in a PC building thread. I really don't know why you're in it ... ?

Some people are enthusiasts. I already said that. I'm not. You're not.

I'm not? I hand assembled and soldered my first computer.

I'm *NOT* an enthusiast?

I wrote a mini-operating system and language for it because the Basic it came with was too crippled.

I'm *NOT* an enthusiast?

Let me tell you something

Enthusiast doesn't mean idiot, tool, or fool. It doesn't mean spending 2x the money for 2/10ths the performance. It means understanding what's really important for getting what you want out of your PC, and the most effective way of getting there. It means not pretending there's only one hammer for all nails.

As for my participation in the thread, the subject of flaky video cards/drivers came up, so I pointed out that a console side steps that whole issue very nicely and then made some suggestions based on bang for the buck. This is not some religious debate. We're talking chips and s/w, and there's more than one way to get the job done.

So you're arguing that you ARE a PC building enthusiast who likes to benchmark video cards and assemble gaming rigs for fun, and then bitching about people who are PC building enthusiasts who like to benchmark video cards and assemble gaming rigs for fun. Apparently, along the way, somewhere, there was a break down in communication. Get your fucking story straight, please. :chuckles:

I mean, man, I really don't give two shits (no offense, I'm just saying) what kind of technical exploits you have under your belt because quite frankly, that just isn't my field. What we're talking about is gaming rigs and building gaming PCs. You're railing against that shit and talking about how idiotic it is to spend that kind of money, so it's safe to say you are not a PC gaming/rig building enthusiast.

anyway, battlefield 3 on a computer shits on the xbox version

i have both, it's hard to enjoy it on xbox

Believe it or not, but there's more to PCs than gaming. ;)

And even when you're in to something on a particular platform ... you do need to know when to pull the plug and move on. That's what I did. I was in to building PCs that could run the latest games for a while, but the rate the industry was obsoleting my hardware far exceeded my game purchases.

That, however, is a personal decision and I could care less about folks who want to spend whatever they want to spend so they can play games on their PC, just like they shouldn't care that I prefer to game on my PS3.

The only thing I'm rallying against are people who waste their money because they think it conveys some level of k3wlness/bragging rights. If someone like Gourimoko knows exactly what he wants and he's more than willing to spend to get it, I have no problem with that. The only problem I have with him, is that he somehow thinks what works for him ... should work for me, when I've already explained that I find the graphics on my PS3 to be perfectly fine, that I enjoy playing games on my HDTV which my PC is not setup to do, that I find the PS3 to be a much better value, etc, etc.

So if you think PS3 graphics are "gimped" that's fine. That's your opinion, but you're just way off base to try to insist that's the case to someone else because "gimped" is a subjective measurement. If you want to try to provide some objective measurements (aka screen shots) like Gouri did, that's great, but the final determination of worth is still subjective. That's not going to change.

Get it?

When the new PS3 and Xbox come out, console gamers will be arguing the same BS, but just keep in mind that all the technical superiority in the world didn't stop the Wii from dominating the gaming market: affordable, easy to use, and fun can trump even the fact the platform was basically a generation obsolete upon release.

You still...don't get it ....

BF3 on PC visually >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BF3 consoles. I'm not even going to go any further. In that respect, console version= gimped version. Nobody will argue that, even BF3 console players. So we'll move on to what I REALLY want to hammer home to you:

@ the bolded portion of your post: this is fucking irrelevant. We are talking about building gaming PCs and benchmarking cards and the like. ARE YOU AN ENTHUSIAST OF THIS HOBBY? Clearly not, as you are railing against it incessantly. Thus, you are not an enthusiast of this hobby. Simple.

Please, stop trying to twist things and get your way out of that. It's annoying. That's the worst part about the Internet, nobody ever admits when they're fucking wrong. And before you start whining that I said your "opinion" is wrong which isn't possible, I'll preempt you and say that I'm not saying you're wrong about preferring console gaming. I couldn't care less if you love console gaming more. Shit, I even see why you like it more: because building gaming rigs, benchmarking the latest and greatest PC titles, etc is not your hobby. Maybe you used to be into it, maybe it used to be your hobby, but it isn't anymore. You admit as much.

Riiiiiiiight? This is really a stupid thing to argue (whether or not you're into this hobby) but you won't fess up to it.

Finally, if you feel somebody is bragging about it because they think they are "elite" or whatever because they build ninja NASA rigs, who gives a shit? Just ignore it and forget about it. This thread is about, well, building gaming rigs so talk about it or get out.

Just my ... opinion. Personally I play PC and I fucking play consoles and have a blast with both. It all depends on what I want to do at the time. I wish there were more people like that so we wouldn't have dumb arguments like this.

Care to comment on why you feel that?

Jesus titty fucking Christ.

64 players vs 24 players (24 players? REALLY? A game about epic warfare with ... teams of 12?)

Much better graphics power vs less graphics power (Xbox requires some 1.5 gig texture pack just to make the game look better than MW2) Less Frames too but a lot of people dont mind that

Destruction enhanced vs destruction gimped

The above may not mean much to you or you may not be interested in those extra features, but that doesn't change the fact that the PC version is much improved in these aspects.

But what the fuck am I bothering. Nothing I say here will have you admit the PC version is the better overall version, and you will not concede an inch of ground on any of these points. Such is discussion on the Internet.

/wasted my time

Yes, an absolute waste of time, because I was asking KCOTT about his experience playing the game, not for a list of the rumored technical differences.

It's rumored that the destructability is increased, the PC version supports more than twice the amount of players, and the visuals are better?

Interesting. I've played both versions and can fully support this case. So do most head to head comparisons on the Intrawebz that I have read/watched, prior to having played the game myself. However, if you'd rather just wait for KCOTT to tell you the exactly-fucking-same-thing, go right ahead.

At least we agree on neither of us giving a shit who enjoys consoles or who enjoys PCs. As I said I enjoy both. People who flip out over somebody enjoying one or the other are annoying though.
