I watch a lot of Green Bay Packers games since I believe Aaron Rodgers is the greatest QB of all time. You guys are seriously underrating the hell out of Mike McCarthy. The problem in Green Bay has never been the coaching. It's been the team building. They literally traded their best DB last week for a draft pick and proceeded to get shredded last night and lose DB's left and right. They refuse to give Aaron Rodgers a reliable running game for years.
They never spend in FA even though they're always in position to be a team that should spend in FA to get the missing pieces for a Super Bowl run. If you look at some of their playoff eliminations they've actually lost a few playoff games on some really flukey shit. Like the overtime loss against AZ or the loss in SEA after a failed onside kick recovery. Both of those losses cost them a chance at a Super Bowl.
Also I'd like for the people who keep saying McCarthy doesn't have it anymore or the game has passed him by to explain themselves. Yes we know Aaron Rodgers is great but what exactly has McCarthy not been doing with what they have? They've never had a true #1 receiver there aside from maybe Jordy Nelson when he was healthy. They've always had decent TE's and RB by committee. They have more issues with team building than coaching.
I would welcome Mike McCarthy here. Give me an experienced NFL Coach who knows how to lead a team. I don't want a college coach and there's only a few coordinators who I'd even consider. I want a retread with a good track record or one of the top 3 coordinators.
If I had to rank the coordinators I'd probably go
Pete Carmichael
John DeFilipo
Eric B
In that order. Not interested in Josh McDaniels and I'm not of the belief that you have to get a coach from a specific coaching tree or not. If we can't get one of those 3 coordinators than give me McCarthy, either one of the Harbaugh's, or Tomlin. You can find a good offensive coordinator. It's much harder to find a really good Head Coach. We need a really good Head Coach and we all prefer that he has a good offensive mind. It doesn't have to be both though. If you can get a really solid OC hire than any one of those retreads would be perfect. Finally, please get someone who isn't a specialist and can run a damn team. I think that's what Dorsey wants anyway. I don't think he's pressing for hot offensive coordinator dude. He's looking for a leader. Give me a leader.
