Potential 2019 Head coaches for the Browns

You hire a Belichick clone when you need someone to "clean" house after your roster has either a.) aged out of contention b.) is just flat out awful.

The Browns are in neither of this situations.

The guy will wind up trading Mayfield or something.

Mike McCarthy decided not to go for it on 4th and 2 just to punt it into the opponents end zone and not touch the ball again with Rodgers. I feel like that’s him in a nutshell.

Also not sure I can comprehend why he elected to pass 3 straight times when Jones was gashing.

I really struggle with getting excited about him — if he were even available and/or a candidate
I think one of the biggest what the fucks about that sequence is that the Packers defensively played 2 deep safeties while the seabirds just ran it with ease to run the clock out

At no point during those plays were the safeties within 10 yards of the running back

Like what the fuck did you expect them to do? I’d rather sell out to stop the run and get beat with the pass thEn literally just roll out the red carpet for them to run it down your throats to ice the game

The Seahawks ran it every play and the safeties might as well have been playing the angel position

And you can say that was Pettine, but the buck stops with the HC. And that was embarrassing

To be fair, McCarthy is an offensive mind and Pettine sucks. Packers offense when Rodgers is playing really hasn't been the problem the past two years. McCarthy isn't exciting but I've heard far worse options thrown around. We all know he will get an interview if/when he is fired at the end of the year.

Not many people agree with you.
Did he or didn’t he completely hitch his wagon to Darnold being a sure thing to the Browns?

Now he wants his cake and to eat it too. They aren’t impenetrable, I was just totally wrong

I really don’t care what people agree with, he’s not often right and I sincerely doubt he has many legit sources That don’t just feed him misdirections

He’s a puppet. A short fused one at that

I really don’t want to rehash this with you.

Allbright was wrong about Darnold at 1. But guess what? So was every single other NFL reporter. Albert Breer, Peter King, Matt Miller, Lane Atkins, Tony Pauline, Mike Mayock. All wrong.

Literally every single person was saying Darnold at 1 (with a couple of very random Allen at 1 people) for about three straight months. No one had Mayfield going 1st until the day before the draft.

But by all means, continue your anti Allbright crusade at your leisure.

Mike McCarthy is this off-season's Josh Allen.

He will kill the team's prospects of being a Super Bowl contender.

If the Browns are successful, it will be because Baker saves his ass like Rodgers does. I guess that's good...but there's only so much that he can do.

So doesn’t that kind of prove the exact point that Albright is trying to say isn’t true? That it is actually a fucking inpenetrable vault

You just can’t have it both ways. Everyone was wrong, but at the same time the Browns front office is pretty easy to read!

It’s just so like him to throw in “I had WArd at 4 sooo early.’

Like alright my man, you probably don’t want to be bringing up your Browns draft predictions.

Me in March:
John Dorsey does appear to believe positional value matters, the investments in the offensive line and CB show that.

Them being in on Breeland and Johnson and who knows who else show that they may still be in the market for a corner.

Denzel Ward should rightfully be getting some love.

Me in January:
Roquan Smith
Maurice Hurst
Denzel Ward
Bradley Chubb

All four of these guys will be Pro Bowlers.

Albright bragging about this type of stuff seems silly.

Ward at 4 really wasn't a huge stretch in here. There were actually several posters who said they would like to grab Ward there or in a slight trade down. I know at one point Matches had a survey set up of something like would you love/like/tolerate/hate each player at the #4 pick and I believe Ward had favorable votes. I'll look for it

Regarding the survey responses at #4, these were more inline with what I expected. Results were generally more positive - not many of the players got negative reactions. In general we're thrilled with the opportunity to take any of these guys. Minkah Fitzpatrick is the favorite, with Ward and Chubb close behind. Nelson is actually the next favored player since as expected, Barkley is the most polarizing choice. Less than half the respondents chose a positive reaction to Barkley at #5. Nelson's positive response rate was 67%, however it those that did respond positively were not as enthusiastic.

Here it is

Also here is the QB one if anyone's interested.

The survey I posted a couple pages back got 46 responses, and my assumption is most of them came from this board. Given that, I was still a bit surprised by the results, which were so strongly in favor of Rosen as the preferred choice. In addition, I was a bit surprised at how anti-Mayfield the response was.

But generally, people here will not get out pitchforks if the pick is Darnold; only 17.4% of people choose one of the 2 negative responses for him and 82.6% were either okay with the pick or definitely in favor of it. That result was second only to Rosen, who had an 84.8% positive response rate. On the other side, Baker Mayfield had only a 19.6% positive response rate, and Allen's was 17.4%. The key difference between Rosen and Darnold was that more people were "all-in" on Rosen, while the reaction to Darnold was more muted. And on the negative side, a majority were totally opposed to Allen, while the reaction to Mayfield was more muted.

Exactly, I remember myself and at least a few others noting that it made sense but also could have worked in a trade down.

I feel like most here would have been fine with Ward, Chubb, and maybe one or two other defensive players at four. There were at least four good options there and they've all been playing well this year.
