Arians is probably 1st in the list. They have been running his offense since Hue was let go. Kitchens has been getting input from him and he wants the job. Baker is thriving running his offense. Match made in heaven.

Key is running the offense implemented and not so much the offense that Arians ran here/Pittsburgh.

it's not that said offense was bad, but it's more designed for a pocket QB.

Baker is running the EXACT type of offense he needs to run.

Both guys will get interviews

Don’t think it’s certain that Arians will get an interview at all. He may, but I don’t think it’s a guarantee whatsoever.

Gregggg will get one as a courtesy for managing the choppy waters from midseason, but that’s it.

The Browns have been running Freddie Kitchens’ offense the last five weeks.

I’m not saying Arians wouldn’t/couldn’t do a good job and adapt what he’s typically liked to do as a play caller and schemer, but it’s inappropriate to say this is Arians’ offense just because Kitchens previously worked for him as a position coach.

Technically, we're running Todd Haley's offense, only Kitchens isn't being a cunt about it.

The idea of Haley having all of these play calls, personnel formations and route combinations at his disposal and not using them in an effective way is actually much more annoying than the idea that Kitchens has simply installed a totally different scheme little bits at a time.

It makes no sense not to give him an interview at all to be honest. I think anyone in PR would agree with that one. Does that mean he is a serious candidate for the job? No, but with everything said in the media and whatnot plus even the casual fans by now know a retired coach said he would coach here, you kind of have to give him the interview and see how he does. He has no true ties to Cleveland from his bio outside of coaching here and facing the Browns for years, so the fact he said he would coach here, but not in a Green Bay is saying the dude deserves an interview regardless of if he is the top candidate at the moment or not.

Eh, the offense feels different than Haley's at the end of the day. It's probably likely he used Haley's system in place as the basis, but he changed/added stuff to fit Baker's needs rather than just stay with the old system or he just cut out these plays and then replaced them with his own variations. I wouldn't call this Haley's offense, I would call them a merger of the two guys.

The fact that Bruce Arians has said he wants the job publicly is not a reason to interview him.

If John Dorsey thinks he’s one of the best candidates, he should interview him. If he doesn’t, he shouldn’t. His desire to be the coach in no way, shape or form should take precedence over Dorsey’s evaluation of the candidates.

This isn’t the laughing stock Browns. This is the best job on the market. If Mayfield is as good as he appears to be, the Browns don’t just have a playoff window, they have a legitimate Super Bowl window these next 3-4 seasons while Baker is locked in at an extreme discount.

I would be willing to bet privately there are DOZENS of coaches who feel the same way as Arians, but simply don’t have the capacity to express those feelings since they aren’t unemployed.

Though this off season we actually may have a dozen if not more coaches actually apply for the job rather than just take whoever shows up like it has felt in the past. I would hope with the fact the job actually seems legit now and a veteran GM leading the search, we will end up with a good coach with potential rather than just almost a body with some football knowledge.

Who is to say he isn’t?

To play devil's advocate, why would Arians go on the record a few times publicly about wanting the job if he were already communicating with the Browns?

One name who hasn't been mentioned enough but will get a strong look, IMO, is Dave Toub.

*Dorsey connection

*Recently had "Assistant Head Coach" added to his title

*From what I've read, his players/former players love him

*One of, if not THE best, at his position throughout the league

He’s been a hot name for a while. Just been cooled off lately in favor of offensive guys. But I wouldn’t hate him at all if we struck out on Riley. Only fear with him is his specialty is special teams. We’ll be at the mercy of an OC and DC. If they decided to leave (mostly the OC) we’ll be back to square one.

Last night's game completely changed what I thought of him as a head coaching candidate. He was constantly making the wrong decisions as a playcaller. They would get the running game going and get to a 3rd and short, to decide to have cousins drop back to get sacked. It was terrible play calling that was stalling drives.
