I feel personally it will be between Williams and Bruce Arians for the head coaching job next season at the end of the day, which means going forward Kitchens is the OC long term, but the DC my change.

I don’t think Williams has any chance whatsoever to be the permanent coach.

Just my opinion.

I also don’t think Arians is going to be a candidate even though he wants the gig.

I think the crowd who is starting to get the itch to keep Gregg Williams really doesn’t want to keep Gregg necessarily...

...it’s Freddie they want to keep.

And that’s fine. He’s ignited an offense that we haven’t seen in a long, long time.

He has also mixed perfectly with Baker’s personality and sense of humor. Hell, he mixes perfectly with Cleveland, too.

But if that’s the case and we win out... just give Freddie the damn interview.

The truth is, Gregg’s defense has underperformed. There’s no reason that he needs to stay.

Let Freddie bring in Todd Bowles to be his DC, assistant HC, and leave it at that if that’s what you want to do.

Despite being an OC for half of a season, I could get behind that more easily than locking up Gregg Williams.

And if you believe you have a diamond in Freddie but he’s not quite ready for that jump, that’s where Arians comes into play.

Even if it wasn’t Cleveland, if Bruce was coming back into coaching, I believe Kitchens was likely to be tabbed to be his OC anyway. So, that’s not a “forced marriage” situation. They were already married.
I really wonder if Toub or John Harbaugh would be open to Freddie staying

I don't understand why Arians isn't getting interest from the Browns

Is it ageism or the fact that Dorsey and him don't have a prior relationship?

Who is to say he isn’t?

Yeah, we have literally heard nothing except a few random rumors about the coaching search thus far. It won't really even ramp up until the season is over anyway.

I can't imagine that Arians won't at least get an interview once those actually start if he was really serious about coming back for it.

I think Dorsey really wants Lincoln Riley, but it’ll take a hard bargain to pry him away from Oklahoma.

Also, I haven’t seen any indication that the Browns have reached out to Arians at all, so I don’t know how high on their list he is.

Because no one seems to be saying anything at all.

There's been more rumors around McCarthy, Riley, and Campbell (before the extension).

It's all just been rumors, though. The team hasn't started interviews yet, and won't until the season is over. It's all just a ton of pointless speculation right now. And the team isn't going to officially comment on anything until the season is over, because doing so would undermine the current coaching staff.

Oh, I was reading too much into the rumors.

This kind of guessing game reminds me of draft season. Everyone trying to figure out who the Browns will pick, but no one truly knows.

Yeah, I’m with you on this.

I think Dorsey and Mayfield have been/will be doing an enormous recruiting pitch on Lincoln Riley.

I honestly think he’s their top candidate. Just the tea leaves.

The things Baker has and continues to say about him. Dorsey’s fondness for how Riley handled Mayfield. He’s scouted Oklahoma live a minimum of 5-6 times over the past two seasons.

If there’s one thing we know about Haslam, he has deep pockets and a willingness to spend.

Yeah, you have to remember that Gregg Williams is auditioning for the job, and the team is going to give him the benefit of the doubt and will let him finish out the season before they comment on or interview anyone else. That's the only way to do it. If you start interviewing people now, it is a bad look, because we're 3-2 since he took over. You let him finish out the year and, even if you know you're moving on, you let him interview and treat him like a legit candidate. Because that shows other coaches that, if there's an opening here in the future, we do right by you.

Just look at it this way...even if Dorsey knows without a shadow of a doubt that he is moving on from Gregg Williams, there is literally zero downside to interviewing Gregg, publicly commenting that he's a top candidate for the job, and then ultimately passing on him. It does right by Gregg for taking over the team this year and doing a solid job by making him look good and maybe helping him land a job elsewhere and it also makes us look good.

Both guys will get interviews, just hard to merit not really considering a coach who has a good track record wanting to come out of retirement to coach this team and a guy in Williams who will likely have a winning record in his games as a Cleveland coach.

This actually may be an offseason though where we don't have to settle for whoever will take the job, but for the right coach for this team. I just don't know if I want a Riley who hasn't been a head coach in the NFL yet for this team. I personally want an experienced coach that is respected and Arians more or less fits the bill better than the other guys in my mind.

Arians is probably 1st in the list. They have been running his offense since Hue was let go. Kitchens has been getting input from him and he wants the job. Baker is thriving running his offense. Match made in heaven.
