Potential Playoff Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would leave whichever of Clev/Tomlin doesn't get a starting role completely off of the roster in favor of the much stronger overall reliever. You really don't need a long man with all of the days off. You can just use 5-6 relievers in that situation.

I'm with you on this.

I would go Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Clevinger, Allen, Miller, Shaw, Smith, Olson, Otero, Goody as my 11 pitchers if I was making the call.

Salazar and Tomlin would be left out.

If it's the 4th metacarpal injury then it's about a month, maybe a little less, maybe an extra week? Could still use him to pinch run late in games like Rajai..But all things considered he should be ready in the early playoffs if that is indeed the injury...

Actually Allen isn't eligible since he wasn't added to the Roster until September 1st, (check the link if you wish from the website) but was announced he would be called up the day before. That rules him out of being able to be on the playoff roster.

Now I am not sure if @AZ_ @BimboColesHair or @Derek will be willing to answer this one. Since Zimmer was hurt, could that make a player like Allen eligible for the playoffs since an injury happened, or is someone added after 8/31 always ineligible for the playoffs regardless of circumstances? I am pretty sure its the latter of the two, but I want to make sure I got my info right.

Also between each round you can change the roster if players are eligible, so if we need to change the roster a bit we can so it doesn't mean if we leave Clev out in round one that we cannot change things around in the second round. Which actually makes Tomlin better in the 1st round than Clev since Tomlin, either way like I did say, Tomlin is the better choice since he has much more experience coming out of the pen and is better at eating innings than Clev is. So first game which is a 5 game series, Clev who should be our 4th starter doesn't need to be on the roster over Tomlin.

Any 60-man move opens up eligibility for Allen. Would be a non-issue.

So essentially adding him to the roster via putting Baker on the 60 day DL made him eligible or would someone else have to added to the 60 day DL to make him eligible?

Sorry I am making sure I am getting my ruling straight, but I read your comment as since Baker went to the 60 day DL that allowed whoever they added, aka Allen playoff eligible

I believe the 60-DL stint would have to be from someone who spent time on the 25-man roster.

Thus, if Zimmer is out for the year. It would obviously be him.

Okay so if we move Zimmer (Brantley/Kipnis maybe as well if not ready) to the 60 Day DL we can then put Greg Allen on the playoff roster to replace him if he is not able to get him healthy in time.

Thanks for your answer since I know you know that stuff way better than I do @AZ_

I personally like to have at least one of the guys on the roster even if it is a bench role since speed can kill especially on the bath paths and both are plus defensive CFs.

@DJTJ last few comments answer the question to your question yesterday since b00bie was able to clarify everything.

May as well do a locks for the playoff roster (baring no injuries)

C: Gomes, Perez
1B/DH: Santana, EE
SS: Lindor
2B/3B: Ramirez
OFs: Bruce, Chisenhall, Jackson
SP: Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer
RP: Allen, Shaw, Smith

That is 15 of the 25 man roster

So the rest will be based off of injuries and how well they heal before coming back. Two more lists I feel need to be made, one with a fully healthy ten and who could replace them

Position players (going with 14 position players so 5 here)
2B Kipnis, LF Brantley, OF Guyer, OF Zimmer, 3B Urshela

Pitchers (going with 11 so 5 more)
Olson, Otero, Miller, Tomlin, Clev

I decided to go with Tomlin and Clev over McAllister and Goody since both of those guys can be long relievers and Clev eventually will make a start if we make it to the second and third rounds. Also there will be days off in between so I don't think we need as deep of a bullpen as the regular season (Though Francona does like extra guys in there always). Either way it seems like depth chart will be Goody, McAllister, Breslow, Merritt after the 5 I mentioned. Otero has given up one run over his last 16 innings, so its hard to no to that especially since he can get a lot of ground balls.

If Miller cannot go (which may be a big blow in a way) It will be between McAllister, Goody and Breslow to replace him. Breslow because he is a veteran lefty, while the other two guys are just solid relief arms (the hate for McAllister and Shaw on these boards just shows a bit of ignorance on how good we have it). I don't see Merritt getting a nod here for this spot.

If Kipnis or Brantley cannot go I am pretty sure it will be Diaz making the roster. If both cannot go then either Almonte/Allen or Gonzalez will take the other spot (Leaning towards Gonzalez, if Zimmer can go)

If Zimmer cannot go then it will either be Almonte/Naquin or we will move someone to the 60 day DL so we can get Allen playoff eligible.

I think that covers any scenario we can have. It is possible it changes between rounds and one of Goody/McAllister gets the nod over one of Tomlin/Clev so that is the last spot really to be decided by Francona.

Yea didn't something happen in 2015 where the Royals activated Raul Mondesi Jr in the World Series ? Believe that was his debut in fact ? Or something to that effect ??

I don't remember but if he was on the 40 man roster/someone got moved to the 60 day DL you can replace someone who is on the roster currently. Doesn't happen often but it's there to make sure a team can field a proper roster for the playoffs.
