Potential Playoff Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So a platoon in LF, like the below, or Kipnis full time LF?

LHP: Chisenhall - Jackson - Guyer
RHP: Kipnis - Chisenhall - Bruce

Urshela at 3B? Likely not a spot for Yandy if Kipnis comes back

That's a good question.

Would they sit Bruce vs. LHP? I don't think they would in a playoff series.

None of the options (Chisenhall, Bruce, Kipnis) have particularly great splits vs. LHP

Edit- Chisenhall actually has great splits this year, granted in 48 AB

You're probably right with Bruce being the guy though; lining EE, Bruce, Santana in the middle of the order poses the greatest anxiety for opposing teams

I think Bruce has earned full-time RF play--even against Lefties.

With Zimmer out, I think it's Lonnie and Jackson splitting CF.

LF is Brantley's if he is healthy--but I don't see him being healthy. Gotta split it between Kipnis and Guyer I guess.

Bruce probably should sit against lefties, but they don't have enough right-handed outfield bats to platoon him - so I'd imagine he's playing every day in the playoffs.

If no Brantley, I'm guessing...

Lonnie/Guyer in LF
Jackson/Kipnis in CF
Bruce in RF

With Greg Allen as a pinch runner/defensive sub?

I would guess Bruce would be the one since he has the real HR threat and putting EE, Bruce and Santana together in the lineup is actually a bit scary for an opposing pitcher especially if they are hitting well. Both EE and Santana are always better later in seasons.

Has he? Since his hot start as an Indian, he's just 5 for his last 40.

0% chance they go with Gonzalez over Urshela as the backup infielder.

Gonzalez can play more positions on the infield than Urshela including some Outfield. As a utility man Erik Gonzalez is more valuable than Gio. Now if you want to argue Gio over Yandy then fine but I would rather have Yandy. Also both EGon and Yandy have better numbers at the plate. Also EGon is the better defender than Gio, can play more positions (2nd, SS, 3rd, RF, OF, LF).

I prefer Yandy to Gio at 3rd.

Also if Kipnis comes back I am not sure he will be ready for a post season run nor am I sure I keep him on the post season roster.

In addition J-Ram is better at 2nd then at 3rd

Don't really need a utility guy IMO. They're not going to be resting guys in the playoffs.

Lindor and Ramirez will be in the lineup every day at their respective positions.

Yandy makes the most sense starting at 3B right now with Gio as a late inning replacement for defensive purposes.

If Kip comes back (and is playing 2nd), then the late inning defensive switch is Jose to 2nd, with Gio entering at 3rd.

If this were true, there would be no reason for Gio to see the field.

Don't get me wrong Gonzalez is a solid player but Urshela is the stronger fielder at 3rd base. If we played him there everyday, he would win a Gold Glove without a doubt. Gonzalez is about equalish to Ramirez at 3rd and I am not opposed to him on the roster but Diaz has a much better bat than Gonzalez for 3B and Urshela has a much better Glove, so Gonzalez will not be on the roster barring injuries.

No. 1 - right off the bat, this is nonsense.

No. 2 - If you're already keeping 6 outfielders, the fact that Gonzalez could POSSIBLY be able to play OF in an emergency (and he's only played 36 innings in his professional career in the OF) is completely irrelevant.

No. 3 - Urshela won't be a starter. Strictly a late-inning defensive sub with the lead.

Yandy's roster spot basically comes down to Brantley's health. If Brantley can play, Kipnis will go back to 2B and Jose will play 3B. If Brantley can't play, then Kipnis will play OF and Yandy will start at 3B with Jose at 2B.

Either scenario, Urshela is the backup 2B/SS/3B.

Is Kip in center really going to happen?

He will play some OF when he comes back from the DL here soon. Now it just depends on how he looks out there, but with the fact he was converted from the OF its quite possible he does just fine. I am thinking Francona wants to be as flexible as possible and be able to keep a Diaz on the roster plus Ramirez is a stronger 2B than Kipnis.

I wish Kipnis got more action when he was in the game at CF since I wanted to see what he could do.

For guys who know baseball and have gotten to watch the games, how has Urshela been at SS and 2B? I haven't gotten to watch him much at either position.

His MILB page indicates he's only played 191 innings at SS and 19 at 2B. He seems like the type of guy you could plug in either of those positions and not see a drop off. I don't foresee Lindor or Jose getting subbed off at any point in the postseason so not really anything to worry about *knock on wood*

I'm sure you'll see more of Kipnis at CF to close out the season
