Potential Playoff Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Someone please hide Bauer's drones right now.

Is anyone else concerned about Chisenhall? I could be wrong but no appearance since 9/14?

Going from a 50 pitch appearance to an 80 pitch appearance to a simulated game to starting in the ALDS....

Maybe if it was Corey Kluber that'd make sense.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a strong possibility, but if it was going to for sure be Tomlim, then wouldn't Francona just say that?

From Bastian:

The fourth starter is likely veteran Josh Tomlin, but Francona was not ready to show his hand about that decision. The manager also noted that there is still internal debate about the potential role for righty Danny Salazar.

You only need four starters in the playoffs, the Indians have five healthy ones right now, why would they insist on stretching out a 6th starter unless they thought that 6th guy actually had a chance to start?

I think the Indians genuinely would prefer to start Salazar (combined with the fact they think Clevinger's stuff plays best of the three out of the pen), but aren't comfortable that he's going to be healthy or sharp enough to do it.

Tomlin, to me, is the standby. The old reliable. You pretty much know what you're going to get.

With Salazar there's the appeal of possibly getting this: http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/id/370815109 or this: http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/id/370805105. Both of those starts were in August, so we're not talking a lifetime ago.

It's hard to say since it was a calf injury again. I think from what I heard he should be playing in the next homestand to finish the season.

Based on this tweet the other day, I'd guess it is more precautionary. Although I've never heard of someone missing as much time as he did with a strained calf. That's crazy he missed a month and a half.

After his return from the DL too he hit 10 for 43 (.233 AVG) and a .615 OPS.

Another reason Austin Jackson's production has been so important.

Greg Allen's chances at a playoff spot look like they've taken a hit.

Last night Kipnis wasn't subbed out defensively for Allen for the first time I believe since his return.

Kipnis also getting the start today against a lefty. That's pretty notable.

Greg Allen in MLB:
vs RHP .136 AVG (3 for 22, all singles)
vs LHP .444 AVG (4 for 9, HR, DB)

Greg Allen in AA Akron this year:
vs RHP: .227 AVG (42 for 185), .639 OPS
vs LHP: .356 AVG (26 for 73), .863 OPS

Allen will never start in the playoffs, barring another injury, but would serve as a late game substitution/pinch hitter.

Don't think Kipnis staying out there means much for Allen's chances. Important for Kipnis to get as many innings out there as possible.

With the way Tomlin looked last night, and Salazar looked tonight, I feel like Danny might steal that fourth starter spot... after we've been writing him off the playoff roster for a while now.

I think Greg Allen has a spot on this roster. Pinch Runner, Ace Defensive OF. A player like that has value.

I honestly think that starting Urshela (with Jose being the backup 3B, Kipnis being the backup 2B, etc) and leaving Yandy off the roster has to be an option we consider. We probably don't go into the playoffs without a bench IF, but it's something I could see us doing if we really needed every OF spot we could with these questionable injuries.

Hard to make a definitive declaration on the roster with Brantley and Guyer still up in the air.

If both of them can go, it likely moves Kipnis back into the infield and Yandy off the roster.

If everyone is healthy, I think you're looking at...

C: Gomes, Perez
IF: Santana, Kipnis, Lindor, Ramirez, Urshela
OF: Brantley, Jackson, Bruce, Guyer, Chisenhall, Allen
DH: Encarnation

So you're starting Greg Allen in CF?

Jackson/Chisenhall.

If it boils down to Allen or Diaz for the last spot, I'd rather have Allen's speed and defense in a late inning situation.

Tito already said Chisenhall in CF is emergency only

I think Allen and Diaz are on the roster. Guyer probably out regardless of his health

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Francona's the manager and he's going to do what he wants to do. I don't think the roster they put out there for the ALDS is going to be the best possible roster the team can put out there, but I'm just an idiot with an opinion not paid the big bucks to make those calls.
