Very interesting thing happening in this thread that I think is a microcosm of what may be happening in society at large.
I mentioned earlier the importance of distinguishing false accusations of racism from real ones. We can see here that when that does not happen, people start tuning out complaints. So what you have is some people getting angrier and angrier, in part based on incidents that are not really racism, and other people simply tuning the whole thing out because they're sick of hearing allegations of racism applied to every incident.
And that's a very fine recipe for polarization.
the off duty cop incident may very well be a byproduct of racism. its still under investigation.
not sure how one cold declare it wasn't.. you may have not referenced it but the topic was in the post you were replying too.
The problem here is that people feel the shooting officer has to be racist to commit an act of racial biasness.
yet whether the officer hates people of other races has very little to do with it.
The st louis case brings up a lot of interesting question that got lost in people trying trying to "disprove" it had anything to do with racism.
Also this has been a thread for a lot of cop abuses of power . wrongful shootings are just that. wrongful shooting.
I don't think what is going on in this thread is resembling anything going on in society because we have seen with the Mcdouglas case, Officer Yanez and others actions are being taken to create accountability.
In Yanez case.. he may have not been convicted but 3.5 million was paid out to Castilles family. City isn't gonna pay 3.5 million out and be done. they are gonna make changes to how their police department conducts business so they don't have to spend another 3.5 million. it also shows the local da didn't prosecute Yanez for show.. He believed there was wrongdoing and the city settling supports that.
What we have found is that Officers have been omitting information from their reports, Officers have been attempting to cover up for their fellow employees and officers are being prosecuted for it.
and when officers omit things from their police report its gonna create questions like with the nameless off duty cop represented by Police Union lawyer Rufus Tate.
Their legitimate questions not false accusations.
It also seems peoples views on gun control impact their interpretation as well.
