I don't know what was in his mind when he said it, but I've said/heard the metaphor many times and it was never to be offensive. It certainly didn't mean I thought the people were the equivalent to prison inmates.

Of course this guy won't get the benefit of the doubt though because he's a Trump supporter and the Left is always looking for scalps.

The way I see it, it was just a very, very poor figure of speech to use in that particular instance. Any time you compare players to prisoners it's going to go over like a lead balloon.

I agree. I think it's a silly thing to get upset about, but he should've been aware enough to realize that it would offend a lot of people.

Racial issues aside, that's a really stupid figure of speech to use as an owner/boss in any business. It's going to be interpreted, rightfully or not, as a Freudian slip that reveals how little you think of your employees.

I know when someone says a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, I always worry about shaking their hand in the future.

Question for the replies here: What should have been the compromise on SLAVERY to prevent the Civil War?

The South should have abolished slavery as long as the North denounced the BLM groups and alt-left.

There were multuple issues, including tariffs, etc., that were important to the South apart from slavery. Had the South been willing to give up slavery as part of a compromise to obtain concessions on other issues, the war may have been avoidable. Unfortunately, the South was so intransigent on the issue of slavery that no compromise was possible.

Kelly's point on Lee being an honorable man raises the legitimate issue of whether we should judge people in the context of their time, or in today's standards.

Slavery was legal everywhere in the world through the vast majority of history. Democratic systems didn't exist for most of history either. Which means that most historical figures of consequence, on every continent (including Africa, and both pre-Columbian South and North America) were complicit in the maintenance of slavery and/or undemocratic rule.

So one way or the other, that includes Socrates, Themistocles, Marcus Aurelius, Alfred the Great, Saladin, Abd-ar-Rahman III, George Washington, and pretty much everyone else.
