Good. THE Cell is terrific and now I'm going to have to watch it again with Halloween coming up.

Cell I don't know shit about.

It was a Stephen King novel about a decade ago. Pretty good. They made into a movie, mixed in some John Cusack and Sammy L Jackson, a baffling ending and the end result was a dumpster fire.

I'm one of the few people that I know that likes "The Cell." I thought it was fantastic for what it was.

And J-Lo is just ... my God ... she's so fucking hot in that movie....

The videography (that the right word?) is fucking gorgeous in that movie. Colors are so vivid and the surreality is just incredible.

I think they took a lot of risks by spending so much run time that took place in abstract areas. I mean what...well over half of the movie takes place in a setting that doesn’t really exist. And it’s not The Matrix so there’s no guns and fighting for the action crowd. Very difficult to grasp on one viewing.

It’s a difficult movie to like. It’s fucking terrifying. Truly one of the most disturbing movies out there, which is why it’s one of my favorites.

Top 5 horror movie for me as far as personal preferences.

Cinematography, but YES, I agree 100% .. it's done perfectly.

Definitely on my list of favorites.. Thinking of some good films that might be better though ... hmm ....

Maybe not in actual order...
1) In the Mouth of Madness
2) The Thing
3) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
4) Rosemary's Baby
5) The Exorcist
6) The Ring
7) The Witch
8) 1408
9) The Shining
10) .... ?? I think this is where I'd put The Cell?

Haven’t seen In the Mouth of Madness. That good??? Will have to check it out.

Great list.

Just rewatched The Witch. What a great flick. Tremendous atmosphere and sound effects...

For me, all of my favorite horror movies have just absolutely stifling atmospheres to them. Like you feel as if you can barely breathe while you’re watching them. Movies can do that by instilling a sense of claustrophobia, creating disorientation with the setting or characters or with soundtrack/ sound effects.

The Thing nailed it with the claustrophobia and disorientation with the characters. You don’t know who is who. You feel like you’re inside that shitty little base.

TCM did a great job of disorientation with those chase scenes and the sound effects were just brutal (in a good way) The chimes and bangs make me insane, but they work.

The Ring when I saw it absolutely flipped my shit. It was relentless. Really good use of rain and sound effects and they nailed it with that video.

1408 was totally relentless. At a certain point, it’s just like...LET THE FUCKING GUY GO. Lol. Killer atmosphere. Really great, underrated horror movie.

Cinematography.. Director has done other things worth watching. The fall, I think

Is that where Vince Vaughn gets his intensities rolled out from him?

My favorite psychological horror movie of all-time. It's.. an acquired taste, to say the least. But if you like John Carpenter, and I do, then IMHO, it's his best film.

Great list.

The Witch is an all-time great film... I was so shocked by it.. Just .. didn't expect it to be that good.

That's why I love In the Mouth of Madness... the atmosphere.. you feel like the entire world is collapsing. The movie feels like a bad dream.

Agreed on all accounts!

@The Oi

Speaking of atmosphere.. was just talking about this but, Roman Polanski... I don't think I've seen a movie of his that I didn't think was at LEAST an 8/10?

Rosemary's Baby is just .. such a great film. You could tell Daron Aronofsky was totally lifting completely elements from the movie for "Mother!" (what an abortion, literally)...

I loved In The Mouth of Madness. It's one of the best Lovecraftian movies ever made.

I don't know that I've seen much other than The Pianist, Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby. And Rosemary's Baby was killer for atmosphere.

I will watch In the Mouth of Madness on your and @The Human Q-Tip's recommendation.

You should watch everything Polanski has done... Watched 'Frantic' recently (Harrison Ford); such a great thriller.
