But having those kidnapped women in hijabs was a very accurate representation of what's actually going on. I think one of the reasons Coogler incorporated that into the movie is because he understood the impact that this film would have culturally especially with many African actors and actresses on the cast and he wanted to remind the viewers that we haven't forgotten about those girls.

I agree. But would it hurt to have a counter balance? I know he didn't make this movie for me, and we don't need EVERY person represented in every film... I'm not the PC police. But I'm not alone in being irked by it.

Having a good memory is really all American school is about... memorizing things in the short-term for a test, rather than learning, conceptually, why these abstract concepts or facts make sense and are useful and can be re-purposed.

I rebelled against that and did it the other way, ignored memorization (except somewhat for spelling, which I'm awful at) and took the time to actually learn the concepts. No point in memorizing the million math formulas when you realize so many are just variations of the same formulas and that you can derive the base formulas when needed by just understanding why the formula works the way it does and then apply a little algebra to simplify the formula to the current case you're dealing with.

I did have trouble with high school chemistry because I thought it was incredibly stupid they wanted us to waste time memorizing the periodic table just for the sake or memorizing it, so I refused to do it. I figured if I ever became a real chemist, I'd have the periodic table on hand as a reference and would also end up memorizing large chunks of it just from actually using it.

I'll be surprised if T'Challa keeps that waterfall around. He got handled in pretty much every fight without the suit. :chuckle:

I think it's already been mentioned, but T'Challa's sister was such a scene stealer. Killed it with such limited minutes.

She's actually the smartest person in the MCU. Ahead of Banner and Stark.

I'd give Black Panther an 8/10 (disclaimer - I am a total film snob and a film has to be truly extraordinary for me to give it anything higher than that). It's certainly not an Oscar-worthy picture IMO. Nor is it on the level of Dark Knight or Logan, which I consider to be truly great movies even outside of the superhero genre. But it is easily better than any other superhero movie I can recall seeing. It has a great cast and one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a while (the drums on some of those tracks were unbelievable). And the vibrant colors and culture just popped off the screen. It tackled some interesting issues in a unique and compelling way without being too heavy handed. More than anything else, it was just thoroughly enjoyable to watch. I might even use my Movie Pass to see it again while it's in theaters, which is something I pretty much never do.

Ahead of Stark... but Banner?

And Stark/Banner definitely won't be the smartest persons once FF comes with Reed/Doom... Those guys are next-level ridiculous.

Reed Richards is considered the smartest person in the Marvel Universe.

Definitely.

But I think he means the Marvel Cinematic Universe... It's a bit different.

Tony Stark was never anywhere near the smartest character in Marvel Comics. Reed, Doom, Pym, and Banner were all smarter, certainly.

FWIW, I have it ahead of Logan...

Logan was overrated

Just saw it again, this time in IMAX.

So good. Still felt like the movie flew by.

9/10. Only gripe is that Killmonger was only King for like two seconds. I absolutely loved the character and would have liked to see the start of his vision take place before inevitably being stopped by T'Challa & co. Instead, his vision never even started, which is unlike most villains in movies.

Of course, if weapons did get out of Wakanda as he wanted, it would have been really difficult to contain, and then the aftermath of trying to explain things to the world would have been really messy for T'Challa. So perhaps it was better this way.

Still, would have liked to see more of King Killmonger.
