why should it matter that it was a comic book movie.

And all 3 are good.
The Academy is only going to nominate a genre film under rare circumstances, IMO. If they had 8 or 9 other movies to nominate over BP, I'd bet they would've. But a lack of candidates, and the pressure to start recognizing more popular films forced their hand.

I have no problem with a comic movie being the best one. But I think this was a token nomination.

wasn't as clear with Green Book. Shirley's family said there were, the guy who wrote it said Shirley told him don't talk to my family, they don't know what happened because they weren't there. Of course, he could have personal bias since it was written by Tony's son.

Blackkklansman, so many things I said "how did that even happen" only to find out afterwards it didn't. As a work of historical fiction, it was great, but the movie emphasized "this really happened".

Every movie that is even loosely based on a true story has said "based on a true story" regardless of how accurate. It's not like this issue is unique to that movie.

I guess you didn’t see the movie, the text to open the movie went beyond the normal based on a true story or inspired by actual events, so my expectations of the accuracy of what I was seeing was higher.

Inspired by actual events would have set expectations properly. So many key scenes in the movie never really happened.

I saw it but I honestly don't remember the text at the beginning.

"Dis joint is based upon some fo' real, fo' real shit"

I went in thinking it was a true story, then read that, then later found out two of the most important parts of the movie weren't true

1 - His partner wasn't Jewish, which means one whole chunk of things in the movie (to make thinks appear even riskier than they actually were) never happened
2 - the whole saving lives by preventing the C4 attack, which ended up killing some of the klansmen, never happened. I left the movie thinking how he saved all of those lives by preventing that attack

Many things in the movie did happen, but those were both so significant, and I guess it wouldn't have been as good of a movie without those changes, but for me it detracted to later find out such key things didn't actually happen.

"Dis joint is based upon some fo' real, fo' real shit"

I mean, that's literally exactly the same as saying, "The following is based on a true story." It's just written in slang.

And as with any "based on a true story" film, I try to put the reality aside and judge the movie for what it is, and in this case that was an enjoyable film.

yea, I realized that when I reread it. Except for the "fo' real" being said twice. What I took as emphasizing what we're about to see really happened. I also remembered the quote differently than it was actually written. I remembered it as "This shit actually happened" or something like that.

I lived through it when it happened and I can't wait for this movie

As great as Apollo 11 was in some ways both Apollo 8 and Apollo 13 were more impactful for me.

1968 was an awful year that was redeemed and put to bed by that very risky mission and wonderful message from the crew of Apollo 8. I still remember the awful deaths of Apollo 1 and the sense at the time that Apollo 8 was dangerous - recently we learned that NASA thought the astronauts had only a 50% chance of coming home.

Apollo 13 - a truly scary mission for everyone. The whole world was completely engrossed in that damaged ship and three men heading away from Earth.

I don't really remember Apollo 8 beyond thinking why did they go that far and not bother to land.

I do remember being glued to TV for Apollo 13. But Apollo 11, I consider that the most historically significant event I've witnessed. 1000 years from now, assuming we haven't wiped out the species, people will still learn about the first time we sent people to the moon. And I assume we're back on track where I'll see an event that will top that, sending people to Mars.

on the space tangent, SpaceX is test launching Crew Dragon March 2nd. If all goes well, for the first time since the space shuttled was shut down, we'll be able to send people into space again later this year with a US built spaceship.

Ok, against my better judgement I watched The Last Jedi. I'm one of the few people on the planet who read the Star Wars book before the movie came out in 1977.

So they finally do Episode 7 and kill off Han Solo with no Luke Skywalker reunion. Then they have this Episode 8 where they kill off Luke and he doesn't even get to leave the friggen island. What a waste. But don't worry, they still have Princess Leia for Episode 9 - oops, Carrie Fisher is no longer with us.

Disney ruins everything. What's the point of a reunion if they never actually get together?

No worries though, Disney can bring in William Shatner and NCC-1701-Z to blow up yet another Death Star for Episode 10.

Rating - zero stars (Disney killed them off or they died on their own).
