N in the spread sheet there's two potentials, one next to overall and one way on the right. Que?
Ive tried to explain this before but perhaps it will go over better now that people are more familiar with the sim.

I test ran the roster by some guy named nub . it was version c. with that version I was able to print out a json. then I got the roster version B. Gijimbo and I looked it over and decided that it was a better representation.
I then loaded the version B of this roster set and created an export list. the export list had the players overall rating and potential rating.
This is generated once the roster is loaded not before.
There is a scouting feature where the team can indicate how much they want to invest in scouting, Coaching and some other category. the more you invest in scouting. the more accurate the settings are.

A.a the bio engineer who wrote this program created a mask on actual numbers and visible numbers.

This is why one potential is different from the attribute potential. When in doubt go by the actual attribute .

now from the reddit analysis of other mathematicians and programmers it is not clear if scouting actually converts potential into skill points. The simulater reassesses this constantly.

I can load this into same roster into the simulator and possibly get different overall and potential systems

The programmer wanted to make it as difficult as possible to "beat the system"

I wanted to use the Json output roster because it displayed skill specialties next to the players names.

The overall ratings really just tell you what tier a guy is in. 55-65 for example is basically in the same tier.

if you need a rebounder. a 92 rebounder guy at Overall52 is probably gonna do better for you than a 62 rebounder at the same position at 57.

One of the major perks of the game is that the progression and simulations focuses on your overall team attributes rater than overall talent.

as I mentioned before I had the third most talented team finish 12th. and a 5th most talented team win it all.
