RGIII: Hardly Knew Thee

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Love the move. Take a shot on a guy (I'm guessing there is little guaranteed money) to turn around his career and it costs us nothing other than money (of which we have plenty).

Also, the fact that Hue and Pep are out scouting a top QB on the same day this signing happens couldn't send a clearer message that Goff/Wentz aren't off the table at 2 because of this move.

Things that make sense that may help you come down back to earth:

-RG3 was signed for only 2 years,

-That tells you that their nowhere near going all in with RG3.

-They would much rather invest in a rookie QB from the draft with a 4-year deal knowing they're invested for the long term.

If we want Goff to sit a year and learn from the sidelines while we rebuild the OL, would you rather watch McCown/Davis again next season, or see if RGIII can revive his career?

Kind of a no brainer. He's over 10 years younger than McCown and has way more talent. It's actually worth something to see what RGIII can do instead of wasting another year with McCown.

MOTHERFUCKING HELL.

If we don't draft Goff now because we are pinning our franchise on RGIII I'd literally lose it. This franchise is fucking incompetent, though, so it wouldn't surprise me. If RGIII is supposed to be the bridge QB instead of McCown, well I understand that, but if he is going to be the future QB I will be very disappointed.

Sashi's statement:

“We are excited to add Robert to our team,” said Browns Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown. “Robert possesses a unique skill set at the quarterback position. He has played at a high level in this league and is intent on doing everything in his power to return to that level on a consistent basis. After meeting with him, having him work out for us and doing our diligent research, we felt it was right to grant him an opportunity with our organization. We were able to see and feel his passion and commitment to re-establishing himself as a starting quarterback in this league and his embrace of the hard work that will be is essential to his development. We've been clear on the importance of improving and stabilizing the quarterback position for our franchise. We have said that the draft is and will be our primary focus, but we will always look to complement the draft through free agency, and this is one of those examples. We look forward to working with Robert and getting him in the building with his teammates at the start of the offseason program on April 4.”

Hue's statement:

“We are excited about Robert joining the Cleveland Browns,” Jackson said. “He brings starting experience to our team and organization. He's a young, athletic, talented passer and he's really just starting out in this league. Just like every player on our team, Robert will have to earn every opportunity he gets. He will compete with the rest of the quarterbacks on our roster and he helps improve our QB room, which was one of my goals upon taking the job. It's a special room and we want to put special people and players in that room.”

Seems to me like QB @ 2 is still a very strong possibility.

Wasn't there a huge deal made about the fact that RGIII was a black Republican a few years ago?

RNC is in Cleveland in a few months...

RGIII is a sleeper cell sent to take out Trump.

But really, move makes sense for all parties. Gives RGIII a chance to prove himself and earn another contract, gives the Browns a chance not to rush along another young QB. RGIII has to stay healthy for that though...

You guys are setting yourself up for disappointment on draft night.

You will have two quarterbacks who have talent in RG3 and whomever they draft at 2. You let them fight it out and the best man wins. If RG3 can return to form and recreate himself under Hue...you lock him in and roll with him. If not, you run with Goff or Wentz. Or if Goff/Wentz beat him out, great.
Now we will have 2 chances on getting a franchise qb instead of just 1. Ill take the odds.

So... is now a good time for me to start watching the Browns or....?

:chuckle:

I've been trying to follow and find our for a couple weeks and you just come out and ask

You kill it for my rcf efficiency rate.. I normally don't haveto post my opinions when you're active and now this

I would rather see RG3 in the pre season then MCcown 10 out of 10 days. As long as they take Goff, I am okay with this. Now get better at WR and the defensive front 7 early in the draft. Low risk as long as you dont pass on a QB at 2.

From a 5,000 foot view, I like the move. But when I delve deeper I just have two reservations:
  • The possible fanfare/media circus this creates
  • Unnecessary pressure and the possibility of inhibiting the growth of a rookie QB
So long as those are mitigated, I'm fine with it.

As someone who has defended RGIII while simultaneously bashing Josh McCown I only have one thing to say.

At least he's not Brian Hoyer.
