Robert Sarver and the Phoenix Suns situation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ve somehow been a working adult since I was 18 and I’ve never used racial slurs at work, made sexual comments about my co workers, or talked about my sex life with subordinates. If I did, my job would fire me…even if I told them I felt like it was overblown.

Also, good luck finding a Phoenix Suns fan who will tell you that Sarver is a good owner. They are pretty gutted that he’s not forced to sell like Sterling.
I work at a semi dealership, and it's all crude jokes, gay jokes, and being as vile as possible.
Thank God we don't have an HR in house.

The league actually tried to force Sterling to sale the team but he wouldn’t. His wife finally stepped up and talked him into turning over ownership to her and she sold the team to Ballmer. Sarver won’t sell the team but they should have taken away at least one FRP from the Suns!

My feeling about this is that the NBA is not a free market. The governors vote on who can be an owner, not just anyone with the money can buy a team. So, if the behavior of one of the owners breaks NBA policies or codes of conduct, just like they have for the players, it should be ok to oust them.

No single owner is responsible for the success of the NBA. IF they don't like the rules, they don't have to participate and will likely get paid off many times what they paid.

My guess is a near majority of owners heard/read what’s been going on in Phoenix and thought to themselves “this sounds a lot like my organization.” I would think owners voting to force Sarver to sell might also caught allegations to surface in other organizations. If nothing happens beyond the fine and suspension, it likely discourages others to come forward.

LeBron and CP3 actually thought it wasn't harsh enough:

Monopolies are corrupt. We've known it for ages. Yes they are very careful setting precedent

That's because Sarver isn't Chinese.

It is more common than you think. I work in a chemistry lab. There is an unwritten rule among us to say whatever comes to mind, and it can be freely ridiculed by the others. Some of the stuff said is so hateful and morally wrong that our dialogue has more in common with sailors and pirates than the public's perception of scientists. This is common place in a lot of labs, and if you watch videos of guys like Richard Feynman or Francis Crick you'll see it in how vulgar and straight-forward they can be. There are a lot of really smart people that should have lost their jobs.

Frances Crick doesn't deserve the recognition he has. Stole results and views that are just horrible for the advancement of science and society

Well they are two of the most influential players in the league so I bet if the Suns’ players did what the Clips did and refuse to play the league would take a harsher stance! Money Talks!

Yup, being an old racist asshole is terrible, but but taking money from a regime that is committing a cultural genocide, or welding Africans into their homes whilst blaming them for covid is absolutely fine in our books!!!

I never understood holding those in power to a lower standard than anyone else. They should be held to a higher standard because their transgressions cause much more damage. We hold police to a lower standard than the public, owners to a lower standard than a janitor, and politicians to no standard at all.

There's no respect for authority and the social contract is broken when we find the rules they apply to us have no bearing on their behavior.

You can go to jail for years for stealing from a store, but steal millions and you pay a fine.
