Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So @czvo has asked in the past how much are we willing to spend for Hood this off-season

And unless he has a major turnaround in this playoffs I think right now my answer would be nothing more than the minimum

I really think Hood is just a losing player. A lot of times people get wrapped up in stats when determining who is better which you saw in this very thread when people actually were claiming Hood was better than Wade. Just watch Hood. The only thing he does is score and now he’s so shook he can’t even do it

He just passed on wide open shots to instead pump fake and run around like a mentally slow deer in headlights to make some pass into traffic or do some low percentage floater.

And people love to put this guy’s struggles on Lue, but really what do you guys want Lue to do? Hold him at fucking gun point and force him to shoot?

It’s mental with Hood at this point. And I’m glad Lue benched him. And I honestly hope he gets sparingly few minutes in the next round

If the stage is too big for you then take a seat and watch my dude. Because we need people who aren’t just going to panic and find LeBron at every turn

You sign him for a tinyt amount of money and trade him immediately after a good stretch of games

I have to say, I've learned some stuff this year about over-reliance on regular season stats in judging young players, and the difference between winning clutch players and losing players who don't perform under pressure. I used to very highly weight stats in judging players, but this year has been a real demonstration of how that doesn't always work. Seems like Koby put too much weight on stats too.

This guy, man.

The coaching staff deserves some of the blame, though, in that he went from shooting 47.5% of his shots from three with Utah to 37.5% with us. That’s backwards shit.

—20% of his shots come from 3 to 10 feet (most of those towards 9 and 10 feet) with the Cavs, only 13% of his shots in that range with the Jazz.

—19% of his shots come from10-16 feet with the Cavs while only 14% of them did with the Jazz.

His only role seems to be to get a pass on the wing and dribble into 12 feet to take a fadeaway. It’s a pretty looking shot due to the elevation he gets and the balance he has, but it’s completely inefficient in today’s game (in every years game, really, but people didn’t know better in the past). Why the fuck are we encouraging that?

He rebounds poorly, can’t pass, doesn’t defend well...just ugh.

If Hood and Clarkson play even average basketball, this team can still cause problems for teams because they played an all time turd of a series against Indiana.

Give their minutes to Cedi as he literally couldn’t do worse and he’ll defend better, and be more of a transirion threat.

I think there's something to be said for having to adjust after playing so many years in one spot, and coming to a team that never really put together much of a rhythm this year.

That said, I've watched this dude pass up too many decent three point looks to take dumbass contested mid range shots, and play horrible defense (I mean, JR was a shell defensively all season, and he played above average defense in the playoffs) to be comfortable with him getting $9-10 million.

I'd give him $5 a year tops, and if he wants to play on the qualifying offer and take his chances next summer, go for it.

His confidence with his 3 pt shot is gone even though he currently shooting league average. I just don't think he is comfortable with his reworked stance and it shows.

I think he needs to get his 3 pt shot back on track and work on his handles all offseason. If he is more confident with his handles, he would slash vs fade away 2s.

I'm not sure what I'd pay him but I think it should be possible to get him on team friendly deal. Koby definitely needs to play hard ball with his agent because we have the depth to push negotiations into the season and/or take the risk that he will take the qualifying offer.

I'm perfectly fine with limiting his minutes now because his play had deserved that. But, we still need 3 and D wings out there, so why Cedi doesn't sniff the floor I'll never know.

Lue: "He's a rookie!"

BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT! Give him a chance in a big game before you already pre-determine he'd be bad in it.

Was the one I was most intrigued with when acquired.

Passing up open looks to dribble into the paint only to stop. Unfortunately that’s not the worst part of his game — to go along with that horrendous basketball IQ he provides you with zero defense...

Dude was killing it from 3 point range before coming to the Cavs? Naturally the Cavs change his shot and I'm sure Lue told him plenty of times to "be aggressive."

Having said that, Hood deserves plenty of blame himself, too.

Cedi definitely needs to get a chance. I do hope Lue gives the young guys some burn in the early games because we need someone to take some pressure off LeBron. At the end of the day if we want to revamp this team going forward we will have to move on from JR and Hill because of their expiring contracts. We will most likely have to trade Love and Korver because of their value.

All the young guys will need this playoff experience to build off of. We will need Clarkson, Hood, and Cedi to step up to hold down the SG position next year. If TT can keep his play at a high level, we might be able to move him and open the way for Nance and Zizic to be our full time centers.

Our coaching staff ruined him.
He could be useful after we fire Ty Lue and hire someone who maybe has some idea of an offensive scheme.
Do you guys really think that the coaching staff is telling him that when presented with an open 3 we insist you instead dribble into the lane, galloping around like a mentally deficient deer as ungracefully as you can, and then either fire up some off balance 12 foot shot in traffic or pass the ball to someone who isn't open?

I mean, if so then we truly have the single worst coaching staff of all time, but I think Hood is just shook. He's getting open looks. But he would rather give his best impression of a baby deer than actually taking them

Here's some actual footage of Rodney Hood in the first half of game 7 attempting to drive after passing on an open shot

Note how he doesn't even have the ball. Literally no basketball IQ
