Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Probably 19ppg with Brad Stevens tho

Brad Stevens and Quin Snyder, both good coaches. From now on we can't trade with teams that have good coaches like Utah or Boston. We need to make trades for players who have had crap coaching and no system so we can be sure their skills will translate to the Cleveland context.

Would have never passed the Coach K test in that case... So I’ve never worried about his thighs...

Truthfully I only worry about Euro thighs cause they eat a lot of weird meats and things as oppossed to the guys here who eat a lot of fries, pizza, sixlets etc....

Big thighs is good or bad though?

How about this? is the guy on the right a bust ?

That's why teams trade with us.

I think part of the issues for Hood is that fact is he is not an ISO scorer. He is thrives in a system that moves the ball, and tells him where to move to and what to do. The downside to Lue and the LJ offensives when we dont have a PG is that it consists of the pick and roll and people standing around. I think Hood gets better just having an off-season with LJ to know where to be. I also think, a new coach, or having a legit pass first PG would open up his game as well. I see flashes of what he can do just has no confidence right now.

so the theory is that he is actually a good player but our coaching staff deliberately sabotaged him and ruined his game? And the alternative is that he's actually a bad player and Koby Altman screwed up yet again? Neither of these make me feel good at all.

I think Phil Handy saw his stance was too wide. I actually noticed it too in those first couple games. Then decided to work with him to correct it without really thinking of the consequences. The problem was he was shooting 39% from 3 and was new to the system, no real reason to mess with it in season. He shot 35% with us so he went from clearly above average to slightly below average. If he was let say Jeff Green who was shooting 30% and had been with us all season, go ahead and mess with it.

Korver has really been the guy who has been getting credit for help guys improve their shot this season. Phil Handy also the assistant who worked with Kyrie the most. I wonder how much both those played into the decision to mess with Hood.

A pass first PG like Delly would help him get open shots. I also think a PG that can drive and kick to the corners will help alot with him and the shooters overall. I think that's the big driver of the offense. Lebron and Kyrie use to drive and kick to the corners alot which got the ball moving around the arc. LeBron has reduce the amount he is willing to do it to conserve energy and no one else is comfortable doing it.

I agree, I also think Hill was starting to figure this out before the injury.

It's also something that doesn't come up on stats, its like the hockey assist. LeBron and Kyrie didn't really get the credit for creating the action that led to the points. I'm not even sure Lue knows how important the drive and kick to the corner is to this system. It doesn't seem like he has pushed any PG to do it. He just tells them to be aggressive to the rim but the drive and kick is the equally important counter move in the offense.

He always made the impression of a great shooting talent. Played under a Top Coach like Snyder. But on the other hand they wouldnt have let him go, if they wouldn't know better...

The first good impression of the trade has slowly vanished. Wether him or Clarkson are playoff material...

Lue is definitely an idiot, but I would bet $1000 that he at least tells his guards to drive and kick to the corner. I mean, c'mon...that's not even running an offense. It's LeBron 101.

I’ll be fine with taking him out of the rotations completely and replacing him with Cedi, Cedi is a way more impactful player and he plays with heart and energy on both ends, this guy looks completely lost and shook.
If Hood isn't going to make shots I endorse this 100 %. Rodney doesn't do anything else at a high level. Cedi is a much better rebounder and defender, so he just brings more balance to the team.

I watched alot of Utah Jazz games this year.

They have a system in place offensively and Snyder, like Stevens, Popovich, Budenholzer, Atkinson, D'Antoni, Gentry, Carlisle, and Spoelstra are all head coaches capable of making tweaks to that system depending on the personnel and the opposition on any given night to put their teams in a position to win. I made that list off the top of my head knowing from watching way more games than I want to admit, how I assess capable tacticians in the current NBA ranks.

Hood found his role in that offense this season and he was playing it to a tee. Almost so well, that Utah knew they were going to HAVE to pay him this summer if they kept him throughout the year.

To put it bluntly, he looks like half the player that I saw earlier in the year since he's been here. That's tough to reconcile when each player we traded away who was healthy enough to contribute elsewhere, looked BETTER when they got elsewhere.

Ty Lue and his staff don't make the game easier for our players, and I truly dont believe they use any of our players to best of their abilities, not even LeBron, who I believe plays to best of his preferences when he wants, but is not being maximized for his skillset and ability by a longshot by playing to his preference.

I feel worse about our coaching staff and their misuse of players than I did for Mike Brown's staffs, and that is hard for me to admit while preparing myself to be excited about Game 6 tonight and then Toronto next round.
