Round 4 - Pick 111 - Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Dawand is really playing pass pro on easy mode. No one can bull rush him so everything is speed, and if they do try to power through him he's completely unaffected. Definitely helps when he's about 50% heavier than a lot of the guys he's going up against.

He landed in the prefect spot and situation. Start with Dawand's size, speed and strength combo is crazy, but the techniques he is learning from Callahan then to get the opportunity to play as a rookie because of injury and to take off the way he has taken off.

To piggy back, if the worry was that he was disinterested in football, sitting all year could have fed into that problem. Now Dawand knows he’s a stud and can keep working to become one of the best in the league. We really lucked out on that injury.

Such a dumb narrative (not you). Myles is a huge basketball fan and at times I think he likes basketball more than football, so lets trade Myles because he obviously cant be good at football loving basketball.

Football is my favorite sport, yet this is originally a basketball only message board. I guess i shouldnt post on here anymore because i cant like basketball and football, lmao.

The reigning NBA Finals MVP * should* put to rest any "he doesn't love the sport" narratives. As long as a player has the desire to be really good at his job, it shouldn't matter if it's his only, or primary, interest. Nikola Jokic would rather sit on a horse than dribble a basketball, but he's still one of the best hoopers in the world. Dawand may *want* to be a basketball player, but as long as he's playing like this, it shouldn't bother anyone.

So many athletes have other interests including other sports.

But wait, what fucking horse short of a Clydesdale is Jokic sitting on?

I'm not sure the real concern was basketball as much as it was him not appearing interested in the pre-draft process where huge piles of money were at stake. In other words, the reasons we were able to get him where we did.

Motivation was a question mark for him.

They make the picks given up less of a negative no matter how else you want to see it.

No, they don't. The value of the picks lost is exactly the same, and just as much of a negative because you could/should have had those picks in addition to hitting on the later picks.

That's particularly true in football given the sheer number of players needed to fill a team.
