I mean he is not even in the discussion here on RCF but he is a legit nba ready center that could back up Z and then in a couple years he could be ready to take over. I remember last year if he would have come out he would have been top 5-10. Some said he was better than Greg Oden. I think this would be a perfect big man to build on. I would be cool with Roy to the cavs because of his size and potential.

However its highly unlikely he gets passed the New York Knicks, right pippy.

NBA Comparison: Joel Przybilla
Strengths: Center with great size and strength ... Has soft hands, excellent touch on his shot ... Strong rebounder ... Very good free throw shooter, (around 80%) which is especially important for a center ... Post moves are developing well ... Smart player, has a good understanding of his role and what to do on the court ... Strong character guy ... Hard worker, has shown great improvement in his skill level, body and conditioning in his time at Georgetown ... Has transformed himself into a legitimate prospect ... More athletic than he appears ... His quickness in decision making has improved ... Body strength and agility seems to still be developing, his upside is very intriguing considering how much he improved in the past year ... Good vision and passing ability ... Calm demeanor, never gets out of control or loses his cool ... Has the size to block shots inside without jumping ...

Weaknesses: Limited athletically: Lacks quickness, speed in the open floor, and explosiveness ... Has trouble against big and athletic centers, must work on ball fakes and becoming less predictable offensively ... Runs very stiff, slow transitioning from half to full court ... Has decent shot blocking skills due to his size, but lacks great quickness and reflexes vertically ...

I was thinking about Hibbert as a potential pick at 19 but he really isn't very athletic and he only averaged about 6 rebounds per game last season. At 7'2 he should have grabbed more than 6 boards a game. If CDR or Rush is there at 19 we have to take one of them. Hibbert wouldn't be a terrible pick because he has potential but I would rather take a swingman at 19.

If the Cavs want Roy Hibbert, they don't have to use a draft pick. They can sign him as a min-salary free agent. The only difference is that his name will be Patrick O'Bryant. For slightly more money, there are a lot of proven, backup centers that are also only good for limitted minutes.

id rather sign o'bryant than waste a pick at 19 on hibbert who blows

I am not a big fan of the idea of the Cavs using their 19th pick on Hibbert...although I do think he will fit better in the pro game then he did in Georgetown's scheme and if they got back in the end of the 1st rd I wouldn't be mad if they grabbed him.

Who the hell said he was better than Oden?? Any pro personnel guy who thought that needs to be fired.

Roy Hibbert is 21 and moves like a 31 year old Z.

The league is getting faster and more mobile so you dont take a plodder with almost zero upside.

:confused:no, no, no, no, no...

I'm sorry to be so negative, but Roy Hibbert is not NBA-ready. I've seen him play in person twice, and I left both games thinking he may have been the worst offensive player on the floor. On January 13th, 2007, he matched up with Aaron Gray, the Bulls 2nd round pick from last year. He only scored 11 points, recorded 1 rebound, and picked up three fouls trying to watch the blistering quick Gray . Anywho, he never looked for his shot, passed out of the post whenever he was fed, and only attempted 6 shots.

Flash forward 366 days to Jan 14th, 2008 against Pitt. This time, with no true center at Pitt, Hibbert would match up against the 6'8" DeJuan Blair. 6 inch difference... Blair doesnt stand a chance. Well with no one near his height down-low, Hibbert did manage to grab 10 rebounds (an abberation compared to his unbelievably low rebound numbers). However, he still looked like fried-shit on offense. He recorded 12 points, on 3 of 7 shooting, getting bailed out by going 6 of 7 from the line.

It wasn't just the numbers that made me think Hibbert was overrated--it was the way he played. He often passes out of the post and whenever met with contact (a stiff arm in the lower back), he will never attack. This usually leads to him either passing out or turning around n shooting. He has a hard time getting good post position and is far from the low post presence the Cavs are looking for. Additionally, he let Blair post 15 points on him because his defense is that weak. Once again, not an attack on you or anyone else who think Hibbert is good, just stating that he is not our answer. If we take any Hoya in the future, let it be Pat Ewing Jr

Robocop is going to flip when he hears this :chuckles:

I changed my mind... Hes a hot shooter from 3

I have this feeling that Roy Hibbert will fall into the second round.

He'll fit in certain systems; Chad Ford keeps thinking that he'll be a perfect fit in Utah and that sounds right to me. But if Utah passes on him, I can see a lot of other teams taking a pass too.

If we could pickup a second-round pick and snag him there, then that would probably be worth it.

I'd be down with Hibbert in the second round and Rush or CDR in the 1st... maybe the drop in draft would give him something to prove...

Too slow and not a very high bb IQ. Then of Drew Gooden without speed and no real midrange game. Then are a lot of other bigs we could get in the second round better than Hibbert.

Hell you could throw a rock out the window and hit someone better.

like I said I don't like the idea of the Cavs taking Hibbert at 19 but I have yet to come across a scouting report that questions his basketball IQ. some even think he has a solid mid-range game.

Strengths:

• Size
• Strength
• Frame
• Excellent hands
• Plays hard
• Efficiency
• Excellent passer
• Mid-range jumper
• Back to the basket scoring
• Soft touch around basket
• Basketball IQ
• Work Ethic
• Shot-blocking skills
• Overall defensive ability
• Very young for class
• Intangibles
• Experienced
• Proven at highest level of college basketball

Weaknesses:

• Athleticism
• Mechanical post-game
• Quickness in paint
• Lateral quickness
• Conditioning
• Assertiveness
• Lack of substantial improvement recently
• NBA teams preferring to play small-ball
• Lack of improvement from junior to senior year
• College system makes him difficult to evaluate
• Can his body handle 82 game season?
• Backup/Fringe Starter?

What I saw of him while playing my alma mater in the first rd of the tournament was enough for me to not want to go near the guy. 7 foot of pure stiffness.
