Rumor: Paul Pierce to Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
that's good to know. Did any of those players have a player option that could have derailed the trade?

He's not going to exercise that option, guaranteed. Very slim chance he does. Even if he's worth $80 million, to add 10% to that is a huge number. This is the earning period of his life, this is his last big pay day. He won't opt out.

Especially considering a large portion of his assets are not liquid and are tied up in investments and real estate.

Do you think Donald Trump would turn his back on an 8 million difference in a contract? He's pretty well set, but I'm sure he wouldn't give up that kind of money.

again, are you willing to take a guy who can't play here on a trade that won't happen if Marion decides to opt out. League minimum isn't his only option. He could sign a multi-year MLE or mini-mle contract somewhere and still make his money. It's not like he's washed up, he had a PER of 18.0 last year. Dallas is trading him to free cap space, not because he doesn't still have talent.

I clearly said on court earnings. You are reaching to assume he's blown through most of his money.

I'm not reaching what so ever, and I never said he blew through all of his money. But to throw out $125 million and pretend that is what he actually took home is absurd.

After agents and taxes he cleared around $70 million.

Using the same math, the difference between his option year and league minimum is about $4.5 million, not $8 million.

According to this, his net worth was $80 million as of 2 years ago.

And, again, do you really want to risk taking a player who can't play here next year for a trade that could fall apart if Marion opts out. Are you that sure at this point in his career he thinks another $4.5 million playing for the 3rd worst team in the league last year is worth more than a championship? The difference is quite a bit less if he signs a multi-year mini-mle or full-mle deal somewhere.

Just a little late night nugget.....of course Boston could just as well be trading someone like Bass or Terry for a 2nd rounder.

Paul Pierce could take his 5 million buyout and goto LA. he may not be able to recoup a portion of the 15 but he would be playing where he wants.

The team he's playing for is the one who makes that decision.
