Rumor: Paul Pierce to Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty crazy people would rather trade down from 1 to 5 for Gortat or whatever his name is on a one year rental than trade two 2nd round picks for a HOF'er in Pierce who still is good SF which we don't have.

I wonder if Boston would be willing to take Gee with the 2 2nds for Pierce

Then we could still do the Dallas deal, and move up to 13 for Marion and get a much better player in the draft (hopefully).

We could still do the Dallas deal if we don't give up Gee...

Pierce for 31+33
Marion + 13 for 19

Keep Gee.

Would rather keep Gee and move him to the second unit, where he belongs. He's still a good defender and can give you 10 ppg, which is huge for bench production.

He managed 10 ppg in 31 minutes a night last season. I wouldn't expect more than 6 or 7 off the bench (and don't suggest that he's play a bigger role in the offense off the bench because making Gee play a bigger role on offense is just a bad idea).

Scholar is exactly right, using assets to net Pierce for only one year (maybe even only half that), rather than towards long-term pieces seems counterproductive. Sure, Pierce makes the Cavaliers a playoff team, no doubt, and yes he could help Kyrie and Dion learn to play winning basketball with an still-effective small forward.

However, we know he's gone in either a few months or at the end of the season. Could we not parlay those picks into something more valuable? Is it worth the risk to potentially block any midseason moves we could make due to his enormous salary, especially considering there will be lots of teams looking to make upgrades this trade deadline?

I won't be mad if they bring in Pierce, but I will if we can't facilitate other trades because of it. He's not that valuable.

We might be just short on cap room (at least according to hoopshype).

Edit: Their combined salaries are $24.62. The Cavs should have ~26 mil. So I guess it would work.

i dont know. on the starting team he found himself dribbling solo more often (more time on floor = more time with ball), where he gets turned over a lot. on the bench he could use his athleticism (which is very good) against the other team's bench, all the while not using up energy guarding the other team's best player. 10 ppg, especially subbing in for an aging Pierce is doable. we also like to neglect Gee's improvement from year to year, who is to say he wont perfect his jumper this year? yes it is wishful thinking but entirely possible... then again, Casspi's resurgence is also possible
