Scholar is exactly right, using assets to net Pierce for only one year (maybe even only half that), rather than towards long-term pieces seems counterproductive. Sure, Pierce makes the Cavaliers a playoff team, no doubt, and yes he could help Kyrie and Dion learn to play winning basketball with an still-effective small forward.
However, we know he's gone in either a few months or at the end of the season. Could we not parlay those picks into something more valuable? Is it worth the risk to potentially block any midseason moves we could make due to his enormous salary, especially considering there will be lots of teams looking to make upgrades this trade deadline?
I won't be mad if they bring in Pierce, but I will if we can't facilitate other trades because of it. He's not that valuable.
