There are rumors circulating throughout campus that members of the compliance department have been let go. With more to follow.

The NCAA is in town and apparently there is going to be other things which they have found which will need to be dealt with.

It's becoming more and more apparent that OSU's problems did not start, nor end with Jim Tressel.

If this keeps up, the "lack of institutional control" we all keep talking about could become a real possibility in August in front of the infractions committee.

Not good at all....

Though it makes sense when you consider how they've handled this entire Tressel situation.

I guess at least they're taking action and complying with the NCAA rather than pleading the 5th (ala USC). I'd rather have the problem fixed than just trimmed.

Nothing about this is good, but the problems seem to be thick and I maintain my stance that Tres wasn't the devil here.

I know some don't think much of the athletics department right now, but I think that Gene Smith is smart enough and connected enough to understand the good that can be done by giving the NCAA a blueprint of where to look the next time a school is caught balls deep in the cookie jar. I think that will help the university from being hung.

Whether it started or ended with Tressel is irrelevant. He was a big part of the problem, and the fact that they let him stay on longer than he did points to all three *Tress, Gee and Smith* to being totally arrogant of the situation at hand.

If they DON'T get hit with lack of institutional control, I'd be stunned.

There would have to be new facts coming out for that to happen.

Right now, charging them with lack of control would be a joke.

Most of it comes from the insiders on the scout.com board. Although I do have my own sources of information in addition to those guys, which have confirmed the presence of NCAA officials on campus today.

Personally I think (and hope) that this centers around Pryor....

We'll see.

What a mess. I hope they fix this fucking problem and get my university back on track.

:chuckles:

Where do you see this one going Max? You are a bit closer to the heart being an OSU supporter, but we seem to have had simular opinions. I think the tide has turned and now we are starting to see exagerated reports. OSU will be bowless for 1 or 2 seasons. OSU will lose Scholarships. But, OSU will remain an attractive school for a top coach and will get a good coach in about a year and be back to full strength within 3 years ie being top dog in the Big Ten and beating up on my poor Boilermakers.

Impossible to say what the recovery period will be since we have no idea what the sanctions are.

While I agree, just taking a guess based upon what you think the sanctions are and the strength that OSU football will still have.

People are going to hate me because I know a lot of people dislike Meyer but I've been sure of him succeeding Tressel for at least a year now, and I'm not budging from that opinion. I'm not sure if he'd come here during sanctions or come after they are about done with. Either way, Ohio State football will be down for al ittle bit (by their standards) and probably get a couple years of postseason ban/limited scholarships but they aren't going to be dead in the water Michigan style. They also won't be down for that long, and will rebound stronger than ever assuming my Meyer prediction comes true. Truth be told, I think Meyer would bring dominance to OSU's program that even Tressel could only have dreamed of.

Not trying to blow the situation off. It's a big deal. But I'm really not that worried about this whole thing. If anything, I'm glad it came to light because personally I value ethics and morals and thought OSU football was better than this. If this is what we have to go through to clean up the program, so be it.

Unless the new allegations can be proven, there is simply no credibility to the thought that OSU could have a similar punishment to that of USC.

In order for that to happen, these things would have to get much worse.

Not saying that won't or can't happen, but it has yet to happen.....so we'll all see where it goes in August.

Cmstuffy nailed it. It really is impossible to say until the NCAA reveals their evidence and drops the hammer. The SI article is almost irrelevant in my eyes. The NCAA is doing their own(and much more thorough) investigation....so time will tell. My gut says it will be bad. Tress committed on of the two worst offenses a coach can commit in the eyes of the NCAA. Now all this other shit is coming out regarding the cars. Tress would have to be mentally handicapped not to see Pryor driving around in a new 40K sled every 6 months. Yep, I think they pound us, how bad I have no idea.

As i said in another OSU thread, I don't think anyone touches this job until we see just how bad it is.
