Rumors at OSU 5/31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not gonna say I nailed it, buuuuuuuut...

:chuckles:

Unless the new allegations can be proven, there is simply no credibility to the thought that OSU could have a similar punishment to that of USC.

Explain your thought process here...

I think the USC Punishment will be an accurate punishment for OSU. I dont know hoe much of the Tressell crimes will stay with OSU now that he is gone. At this point the lies seem limmited to Tressell. All bets are off if its proven the admin helped cover up things too.

Also, I dont think a 2 year post season ban and 10 scholarships a year for 3 years is a death sentence. Kiffin went to USC as a hot comodity even though he had unfinished bussiness at a great school like Tenn.

I just dont see this being the end of the world for OSU long term. As for the 2011 season, well there your fucked.

We don't know or can really guess at punishment at this point. August is a ways away. More could come of the investigation.

I've kind of wondered about Luke Fickle as coach even for one year. It seems kind of crazy to me to keep ALL assistants on hand as most all of them followed Tressel to OSU to begin with. I feel we need to begin a clean slate. I also believe this is more widespread than Tressel lying and the only one who knew anything. It would be hard to imagine ALL coaches of the football team had NO CLUE about the tatoo shops, etc. Players talk. Players talk to their position coaches, even in simple general discussion about everyday life. Is OSU actually trying to say that Jim Tressel was all alone with all of this? It just doesn't seem plausible.

I believe it has to start with the current compliance department but not end there. I still feel Smith has to go. Gee needs to go just because he's Gee and a moron of epic proportions. They way he and Smith handled this fiasco is beyond embarrassment. It's incompetence at least.

I don't feel good about August even if nothing more comes to light. We know by now this isn't over.

BTW: Pryor showed what he's all about by driving that car to the meeting yesterday. He's done playing football for OSU. I believe each and every player who did the same should be done as well. Any new coach will want a clean slate. I don't think we have a problem getting a good coach as it's THE Ohio State Buckeyes. No matter what happens, the program will survive and become a leading program once again. There will be bowl bans, etc, but we don't know how extensive. I just feel we need to clean out ALL people associated with anything and everything. Start fresh.

The letter OSU received from the NCAA detailing what they were looking for and the infractions levied did NOT contain "lack of institutional control," which is the REAL hammer of a penalty and why USC got what they got.

So under the investigation which was ongoing, that was not in their thought process.

However, with these new stories coming to light about multiple players and cars, ect....that is likely to get the NCAA's thought process to change. And if found to be true, will certainly bring about the LOIC penalty that the administration is so desperately hoping to avoid.

Word is.... we're recruiting these guys for 2012 as walk-ons:

Some guy at Sporting News said yesterday Meyer wouldn't go to Ohio State because he wants to avoid allegations. He also said he is waiting out the Penn State job. As someone who goes to PSU and knows people close to the football program, that is the most asinine thing I've heard in a while. I will continue to put my word on the fact that Urban Meyer will coach Ohio State. Anyone that doesn't want Meyer, a fucking proven winner, is an idiot.

I'd take Urban.

He's got one kid graduating, another entering high school next year.

Next year would be a good time to move, plus he can wait and see what will be coming OSU's way in terms of infractions.

That incarcerated bob dude from twitter who apparently knows info a couples before the mainstream media has tweeted that Terrell Pryor is leaving OSU and going to try to get into the supplemental draft or whatever. If he can't get into that he will try to go to the CFL for one season. He also tweeted OSU or someone with Terrell Pryor are threatening to sue this guy for saying this info. incarcerated bob is his twitter name but you have to follow him to see his tweets.

I just dont see this being the end of the world for OSU long term.

The NCAA is not the threat to tOSU. Schollies will return. Bowl eligibility will return. There will be 103K in the shoe. Ohio will still be Buckeye crazy 12 - 1 or 7 - 4.

The threat to tOSU IMO is the same as what has ocurred at UM and ND. These were once national based recruiting powers that could walk into FL, CA, TX, - you name it, an have a good shot at those blue chip kids they wanted. May not get them, but had a good shot.

Now I get the sense that after struggling a few seasons (more than a few for ND) they are no longer "cool" schools for 4 & 5 star kids. tOSU has remained a national cool school for 4 & 5 stars to be associated with. I now wonder if they clean up Dodge of a few bad apples who screwed over JT like they should, and will have to, if that repultation changes for a certain element of the more bordeline ethical prospective student athlete. IOW, one can still "get paid" by some southern schools, but tOSU is squeeky clean. It's a jaded and kind of skewed theory, but I've seen what has happened to 4 & 5 star recruiting eroding in the mid-west.

On one level, I'm pretty happy with this. I hope we can get back to the days of Matt Wilhelm, leCharles Bentley, Mike Doss, Nick Mangold & AJ Hawk and away from the TPeezy's. Those kids may need to overachieve athletically to beat the rogue southern programs and yeah, you might get some BCS beat downs on occasion, but for me personaly as a fan it'd be a welcome return.

As always, your opinion may varry.

I may be wrong, but NCAA doesn't usually charge a school with lack of institutional control until the end.

Whether it started or ended with Tressel is irrelevant. He was a big part of the problem, and the fact that they let him stay on longer than he did points to all three *Tress, Gee and Smith* to being totally arrogant of the situation at hand.

If they DON'T get hit with lack of institutional control, I'd be stunned.

ROFL they all knew about it. They all should and need to be gone.
