God damnit I’m trying to catch up on this thread after 500 posts since Monday and there are pages and pages of erotic fan fiction about Kitchens, Stefanski, Dorsey, and the pool repair man Mike Pettine

Childress hasn't actually called plays for a very long time, so I'm hesitant to have him as the OC. Maybe Stefanski would call his own plays like so many coaches often do.

I do think Childress' spread offense knowledge is certainly valuable.

Wasn't that valuable around here the first time

I’m swellin’ up.

Childress? Wtf. Do we really need to go back to 2 yard slants?

Different yes but the offense of philosophy of the 2-yard slant is still there

You should look at Childress' resume over the last 6 years.

All he's done since 2013, quite literally, is become totally immersed in spread offense concepts.

I wouldn't make him the primary play caller because he hasn't done that a long time, but I think he would be a valuable resource to a young head coach.

Where would that leave Freddie even?

I’d say that’s a 0 probability.

Only way Stefanski has this job is when he was asked what his staff would look like it included Kitchens in the picture as OC. That’s the only reason to ask that question while also blocking Kitchens interviews.

We have some really good, knowledgeable posters on this site. I suggest you read their posts before making nonconstructive posts like this so often.

There has been a breakdown already of how much Childress' career has changed since his tenure here.

The Browns clearly wanted to give the incoming head coach (if it's not Kitchens) the opportunity to interview and retain Freddie as OC if they were comfortable doing that.

But it wasn't a mandate. The head coach gets to hire his own staff. If Stefanski gets the HC gig and doesn't gel with Kitchens, then Freddie will be let go.

I’m just gearing up to absolutely hate it.

Couldn’t it be possible that Childress comes on as an assistant head coach (or maybe even more of a front office role) and some type of offensive advisor with Kitchens or another guy at OC? Seems like a good guy to work with DePodesta potentially.

That way Childress gets a title upgrade and is there to assist Stefanski in transitioning to HC.

That seems a bit speculative too. Let's just pray we get an announcement soon before we all lose our collective minds. I guess we should be happy we've already dodged a few bullets but I will feel a bit uneasy if Kitchens is let go. At the very least, he certainly earned the right to retain his current role as OC.
