Series #49: BoSox @ Tribe

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't know how anybody will have confidence in this team come postseason when the game is tied in the 6th-7th.

This was an exhibition game. Just the fact that Otero even appeared should clue us in to that.

The Red Sox clinched and partied last night then mostly started their AAA lineup.

The Indians started Bauer on a 35 toss pitch count, clearly let Bieber eat innings just to eat them, and didn’t even consider bringing in Allen, Miller, Hand, or Perez at any point in the game. In the playoffs, Tito would not hesitate to bring any of those 4 in during the 6th or 7th if the situation called for it.

Trying to extrapolate any postseason meaning from tonights exhibition is pretty pointless.

Otero can even give up a dinger to a 155-lb Taiwanese shortstop. No limit to the meatballs this guy throws.

Dude...

I'm clearly talking about our bullpen which has been an inconsistent roller coaster all season.

I'm aware of this being an hangover lineup for Boston and a meaningless game. But the players are still to play and build confidence, or why else even play at all?

But our problems are still going on.

Just for the record, does anybody think the bullpen will have some form of Cavalier like playoff switch? If so... then we're winning the whole damn thing.

But related to tonight’s game, what caused that reaction?

In the actual playoffs, Perez, Hand, Miller, and Hand would all be in play in an important situation from the 5th/6th on. Bieber or whoever would be in a hypothetical situation like that would have been pulled way sooner before that inning got out of hand. And given some of the other teams shaky bullpen situations of late, what team is really feeling dominant and confident about their bullpen?

Eh, whatever. It was a perfect microcosm of the 2018 season: we're incapable of beating half-way decent teams. Our near-400% against >500 teams is a goddamn joke. We wouldn't even be a playoff team if we didn't play in a historically-weak division, let that sink in.

And "pulling a Ramirez" is quickly supplanting "pulling a Napoli".

We didn’t use any of our top 5 relievers. It was not a game they, either team for that matter, did not prioritize.

I’m saying that at point blank in a vacuum context.

Not trying to create an argument about what we will or won’t do in the playoffs. Just think tonights game was irrelevant to the big picture.

Clev needs 4 strikeouts and history is made

Play ball!!!!

Tribe pitchers giving up a lot of dingers lately. And not just their hapless relievers.

Porcello ain’t particularly sharp, neither. 4 run allowed on 8 hits, 2 walks, and an error. Teams trading runs, so far, but we are getting 2 for every one by the BoSox.

Double-play off the Brantley line-out.

Too bad. Kipnis was looking to score...
