there is a story that always stuck with me. My friend in high school was huge into the braves and watched all the games (this is back when they were on TBS every game). One start for maddux he was in a jam, the catcher comes out talks to maddux and on the next pitch and he gets out of it with a long fly ball. So the catcher had a mic on and after the commercial break they come back and air the conversation with maddux. He tells the catcher he is going to throw a pitch that is good enough the batter will thing he can really crush it but will only be able to hit a long fly ball out....

Benefited from the dark days of NL umpiring when the strike zone was a trapezoid that stretched half a foot off the outside edge of the plate. I bet pitchFx shows that 25% of his strikes would be called balls today.

His lack of a chin was not only unintimidating but disturbing.
