ESPN just reported from the Arizona republic that talks between us and the suns have heated up for Shaq.
Trade would be: Shaq to us
: Sasha and Ben to them

Do it Ferry!

I would do this only if we're getting Kirilenko or some other versatile wing.

EDIT: Do we really need the Ben Wallace situation all over again?

i hope it goes down, im going to get his jersey ASAP

Ben and Sasha are two VERY valuable trading pieces. If all we come away with is a 37 year old player, I'll be very disappointed.

Don't do it Ferry. Sit on your hands. Go to sleep.

This move should not be made right now. This is a knee jerk reaction to not being able to handle Dwight Howard. The Cavs need to forget about matching up against the Magic, and focus on what will make us a better all-around team. There are too many options out there to be settling for Shaq at this point. Ferry needs some time to let the emotions of losing to the Magic subside, and then figure out how to get the most for our pieces. If we go for Shaq now, I truly believe we are leaving too much on the table.

I just wondered, is there any chance of prying Jason Richardson from them too? He's a guy that Ferry was after for a while, doesn't help defensively, but at least we'd have another big scorer.

Report: Suns, Cavs talking Shaq again

Talk between the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers of a trade that would have Shaquille O'Neal playing with LeBron James next season is "heating up again," according to a report in The Arizona Republic.

The trade rumor involving O'Neal, Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic may sound practical for Phoenix and dynamic for Cleveland and has been confirmed to ESPN.com by a team executive, but another source close to the situation said "there's nothing going on" between the two teams.

O'Neal, 37, will make $20 million next season in the final year of his current deal, while Wallace will make $14 million in the last year of his contract and Pavlovic $4.9 million with only $1.5 million guaranteed.

The salary swap is close enough to make the trade work under the salary-cap guidelines, and the Suns would save $5.5 million in the transaction -- $4.5 million in salary and the matching $1 million in luxury-tax payment.

They could save even more money if Wallace takes a buyout, a possibility that was raised when Wallace said he was considering retirement after the Cavs' Eastern Conference finals loss to the Orlando Magic.

If the Suns acquired him and bought out his contract for less than face value, they could lower their actual expenditures, although the full amount would still count toward their luxury-tax total.

Multiple sources close to the situation confirmed to ESPN.com in late February that a deal sending O'Neal to the Cavaliers had been discussed.

Wallace and Pavlovic were offered to the Suns for O'Neal as part of the Cavs' well-chronicled quests to add one more big man for the playoffs and show James they were serious about an NBA championship.

Information from ESPN.com's J.A. Adande and Marc Stein was used in this report.

i don't want shaq. he wouldn't help us defensively. he gets killed in pick-and-rolls and he has become turnover (3-second violations, offensive fouls) and foul prone. also i think we can get better players for our top two trade assets

I would have to think very seriously about this deal. The only thing that gives me pause is Shaq's age (37). However, he looked somewhat rejuvented last year. He would certainly give this team the post presence that they so desperately need. Considering his size, he could probably play at an effective level in the NBA for as long as his body will tolerate it.

Of course, the Cavaliers should be diligent and explore what other deals might be available for a package of Wallace-Pavlovic. However, this deal would be tough to turn down, as dominant big men, like Shaq, don't come available very often.

The fact that we could platoon Z and Shaq at center, to me, is very appealing ...

Not to say I definately think this is a GREAT move BUT Shaq fits way better in OUR offensive scheme than he does in Phoenix.

as others have said, there is really no reason to make this deal now. unless dan gilbert is saying get shaq so we can start printing cavs shaq jersey's ASAP. and that could be a very real thing.

ideally, this is a trade that gets done in september, if all other options have fallen through.

if they do trade for shaq soon, does that make z the new ben wallace (expiring contract)? i'd be surprised, but you never know..

No matter how u spin it, you want Shaqcicle in a Cavs uniform. Why do u make this trade now? Well that's an easy question....you basically put urself out there as the best destination for a guy lookin for the full MLE (Ariza, Childress, etc), and it may make getting a guy like Kidd at the BAE a lot more realistic. The early bird gets the worm.
