Shaq

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not to say I definately think this is a GREAT move BUT Shaq fits way better in OUR offensive scheme than he does in Phoenix.

Which part does Shaq fit in? The drive? Or the kick?

I dont see the big deal here. We WONT be adding an all star running mate to this team this off season. We dont have the salary cap room. Trading Wallace and Pavs allows us to be seriously competitive for the title next season without giving up anything. And then after next season we can wipe his contract off the books.

I just dont see any big impact moves available to us this off season. Getting Shaq is the closest thing to it and we dont ham string ourselves on the payroll either. DO IT FERRY.

I want Shaq and Ariza.

My sources said the Cavaliers are close to acquiring Chris Bosh + Wade. :chuckles:

This would be a last resort trade for us....I rather look at all our other options before this...Shaq is old(may may be only renting him for 1-yr) and doesnt fit well here knowing what Z does

I think we should really do that Boozer & AK trade and sign sheed

I just love how people know on June 14th what will and wont be available the entire summer.

Yes Shaq is old, but if you play him and Z half the game, it saves wear and tear on both of them. And we are giving up Ben, who is on one leg and might retire, and Sasha who can't get off of our bench because he acts like he is brain dead. As far a defence, who the hell wants to come down the middle with Shaq in there? How many times did we see people run right by Z.........Shaq at least would knok them on their ass.

No brainer, do it Ferry.

Problem being of course is that this upcoming season is our money year ... either we win or make an extremely impressive showing against all but one of the teams in the league or Lebron gets antsy. :(

Post trade, we'd still have MLE + draft picks (and the ability to buy up a better pick in the 1st round) ...

Yes, this is our money year, don't you think that we can find a player who can contribute more than Shaq and be on a longer contract so he can help us build a dynasty? Look, we can get older vets too, such as Rasheed, J-Kidd, or Grant Hill, but those are just minor pieces. We need another big help, as we saw in the Orlando series. Whether it be Tyson Chandler, Carlos Boozer, Charlie Villanueva, or someone never even mentioned yet, we can find much better than Shaq! If we end up landing Shaq, there are several key negative factors that carry in with him: He's old - He's been getting worse and worse. He's slow - The Cavs need to be able to push the ball up the floor and get points when the opponent's defense is not set up. Shaq will just slow the pace too much. He's a liability defensively - It's not even like he is a Charlie Villanueva or Carlos Boozer. Those guys are capable of being good defensively with the right coaches. I'm not sure I see it any more with Shaq. He is just getting too old and slow, IMO.

So a player who will contribute more than Shaq, AND matchup better with Howard......any suggestions? :chuckles:

Sure, I don't really like having such a slow guy like Shaq on Howard. Howard will drive him all day.

Here are two players I feel would be able to contribute more than Shaq and matchup better with Dwight:

Rasheed Wallace - Free agent, probably my favorite option. Good history of guarding Dwight, pretty good offensive player, and as a free agent, we can get him and use our pieces for a more dynamic player.
Tyson Chandler - Tyson, if cleared to play, is a great rebounder, and a decent scorer as well.

Cheaper players who matchup better with Dwight, but will likely leave us with enough to still trade for a more dynamic player:

Zaza Pachulia
Luis Scola
Fabricio Oberto
Marcus Camby

What would it take to get Boozer and AK? Do we have enoughy filler to get them both. If we did do a Sign and trade, then sign Sheed.

PG Mo, Gibson
SG West,
SF Lebron, AK
PF Boozer, AV
C Sheed, Z

That looks like a pretty damn good mismash of talent. We'd need to draft a SG and PG.

Would have wanted Shaq for this past run... It didn't happen, we could have used him, and due to my stubbornness, I don't want him now since I couldn't have him last season....

I would do this purely for the entertainment value we would get in the pre-game warmups. :chuckles:

Rasheed would also be a huge matchup problem for a team like Orlando when James plays the 4. Howard would be pulled away from the hoop and open things up for everyone else.

it will be comical when all the people that hate the idea of this trade start trying to crucify ferry when he doesn't move wallace and wallace retires in september and the cavs get nothing for him.

logically, there are likely two scenarios. one is that wallace has decided to retire, which would be the only way that phx would make such a trade.

two is that he isn't going to retire, in which case no team will trade for him before the deadline.

two is that he isn't going to retire, in which case no team will trade for him before the deadline.

This is ridiuclous. He's a giant expiring contract. That still holds value.

as most suspected, this trade isn't happening anytime soon

Sources: Shaq-to-Cavs talks ongoing

Talk between the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers of a trade that would have Shaquille O'Neal playing with LeBron James next season has not gone beyond the preliminary stages and no deal is imminent, two executives with knowledge of the discussions told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.

The clubs have not spoken within the past few days, but sources say talks of a possible trade involving O'Neal, Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic never completely died after it was first discussed in February.

O'Neal, 37, will make $20 million next season in the final year of his current deal, while Wallace will make $14 million in the last year of his contract and Pavlovic $4.9 million with only $1.5 million guaranteed.

The salary swap is close enough to make the trade work under the salary-cap guidelines, and the Suns would save $10 million in the transaction -- $4.5 million in salary and $5.5 million in luxury-tax payments.

They could save even more money if Wallace takes a buyout, a possibility that was raised when Wallace said he was considering retirement after the Cavs' Eastern Conference finals loss to the Orlando Magic.

If the Suns acquired him and bought out his contract for less than face value, they could lower their actual expenditures, although the full amount would still count toward their luxury-tax total.

Cavs GM Danny Ferry and Suns president Steve Kerr, former teammates in San Antonio, are good friends who speak often, and a possible Shaq trade has always remained on the back burner.

Cleveland aggressively pursued O'Neal in February, offering Wallace and Pavlovic. Phoenix was not interested in Wallace because his contract was not expiring and instead wanted Wally Szczerbiak.

Eventually, Phoenix pulled out of the deal because it wanted to see if the trio of O'Neal, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire could make a deep playoff run under then newly-hired coach Alvin Gentry.

Now convinced that they are no longer contenders, the Suns fully intend to move one of their big contracts. With Stoudemire being a young building block and Nash a local icon, O'Neal, whose salary is the largest on the team, makes the most sense.
