Showdown at the DC Corral (Arenas suspended - pg. 13)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From the Washington Post:

A person close to Arenas said Stern's suspension might have been a blessing in disguise, saving Arenas from further condemnation. He had apparently scripted an even more elaborate -- and uncouth -- opening for the next night in Cleveland, in which he would affect a gimp-legged walk like John Wayne and draw at 10 paces with Young, his also-playful teammate.

"We talked about it," Young acknowledged Friday night.

This is unbelievable. Arenas is basically slapping Stern and the rest of the NBA in the face.
He deserves to be suspended.

Heck, I know if his contract is voided that may stop the Wizards from dealing some of their players but I hope his contract DOES get voided. I absolutely despise that guy.

He doesn't deserve to play in this league.

Wizards Players to Testify in Gilbert Arenas Case
Posted Jan 11th 2010 12:30PM by TMZ Staff

Three Washington Wizards players -- including captain Antawn Jamison -- will testify today before a grand jury in the Gilbert Arenas/Javaris Crittenton gun case, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Our sources tell us Arenas has already been called in by the U.S. Attorney but he made it clear he would not testify on grounds of self-incrimination. We're also told Crittenton has lawyered up and took the same position as Arenas.

We're also told head coach Flip Saunders came to the grand jury last week. We don't know if he actually testified in front of the grand jury or just spoke with the U.S. Attorney.

As we first reported, cops are still looking for Javaris' gun -- which witnesses have told cops he tossed into a laundry basket after the confrontation with Arenas. Our sources say someone from the team wheeled the basket out of the locker room. D.C. cops are looking at surveillance video to see if there's a shot of the basket being wheeled out.

Both players could be indicted on felony gun charges.

If his John Wayne skit is true, Arenas might be more mentally unstable than Delonte. I'm thinking, where the heck is his lawyers or advisors or even his mom lol.

God I wish the Fans would vote Arenas in as an All-Star :chuckles:

Arenas was raised by his single father in Florida and California after his mother, a drug addict, left him as a child.

:shifty:

I agree he might be more mentally unstable than Delonte and whoever is in his corner isn't giving him good advice or he's just ignoring it.

Gilbert Arenas Wants to Cop a Plea
Posted Jan 13th 2010 1:55PM by TMZ Staff

Washington Wizards player Gilbert Arenas and the U.S. Attorney are negotiating a plea bargain ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Our sources say Arenas' lawyer and prosecutors are discussing a plea in which Arenas would cop to misdemeanor gun charges. We're told a deal hasn't been struck yet, but it could come as early as today.

Sources say the filing of charges would coincide with the plea, so it would all go down quickly. We do not know what they are discussing with respect to a sentence ... the prosecutor would recommend a sentence but ultimately it's the judge's decision.

Arenas is under investigation for felony gun charges for the locker room incident last month.

As for what a plea would do to Arenas' status as a member of the Washington Wizards, we're told G.M. Ernie Grunfeld and Arenas were text messaging each other shortly after the incident. In one of the text messages, Grunfeld wrote that Arenas had violated his NBA contract which prohibits players from possessing a firearm in a team or league facility. As a result Grunfeld texted the team had a right to void his contract ... worth $111 million.

First smart move by arenas. If he gets a misdemeaner charge, it will be unlikely the wizzards get to void his contract imo. There has been some precidence set, and just because you break a rule doesnt mean the contract goes away. basically getting it plead down to a misdemeanor means he broke a "minor" rule...like breaking the morality clause every contract has for drinking and driving or any other simular act. (this is one the players union will come to defend and rightfuly win)

i am sure it will go to court, but i am also pretty sure the arbitrator/judge will rule in favor of arenas. This wont happen though until the offseason.

This is ofcourse only if he gets his misdemeanor plea.

Snitches won't be getting stitches in this case.

His contract not getting voided would be good news for the Cavaliers.

how? if his contract gets voided and the wizards were to trade Jamison they would immediately be players in the free agent frenzy next year. i would say him getting his contract voided would be very positive news for the cavs, as it would be incentive for the wizards to trade jamison

that said im curious how someone that has a prior gun conviction (if i remember correctly) is going to be able to plead down to a misdemeanor, especially with 4 guns.

...no, then Washington would have more financial leeway and would not need to cut salary (ie. trading Jamison).
