Situation to watch: Minnesota T'Wolves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I could see a deal centered around Waiters/Varejao for Love/Roy.

I like good role players. I don't like Chase Budinger at a contract value that made Minnesota, a team with a pretty thin roster, choose to not match him. In other words, pay Budinger what he's truly worth, and Minnesota will easily match.

With the return of Andy, hopefully Zeller and Gee moving to the bench, and the possibilities of retaining Ellington and Livingston, I think we can have a pretty solid bench/role player rotations next year

Yeah. Silly me for thinking we'd want to acquire rotation players. I forgot how stacked we were

I would trade anything outside our core 3 (Kyrie, Dion, Tristan) for Kevin Love. This team needs one more top-tier talent to compete, and Love would be a tremendous fit to help space the floor. If he comes available, I would be disappointed if Grant let another team grab him. With the assets he has collected, this would be a perfect move for the team.

ak47 is 32 and being paid $10M next year.

also, the cavs still need another star caliber player or better. that comes before worrying about dime-a-dozen rotational players.

kevin love is the best pf in the league <25yo and locked up for THREE more seasons.

cavs are not getting him while retaining kyrie, dion, and thompson.

if the cavs do not offer any of those players, they do not deserve to get kevin love and should expect to see him traded elsewhere.

Minny might be one of those teams that is interested in Andy even though they shouldn't be.

Anyway, I love TT, but you're crazy if you wouldn't trade him and a 1st for Love. Hand injuries don't worry me, and he's had one big knee injury, got surgery, and is getting plenty of time to get himself back to where he was as an athlete. Still very young. He's an underrated player in many areas IMO. Definitely worth a max contract even though he didn't get one.

Have to agree with this. While we won't offer Kyrie, Dion or Tristan + 3 1sts for Love and I'd be happy. I'd prefer to keep Dion because our wing situation would be bleak without him, but I certainly won't have him hold up a deal.

I'd offer Pek 12 mill a year for 5 years. If they match as long as we don't get #1, I'd give both firsts and a second.

A man can dream...

I'd give up Dion, Andy, Zeller, and a pick or two, but I would not throw in Tristan or Kyrie.

Ive brought this up as a possibilty numerous times, but only if we give up the right picks. If we fall past 4 in June, then go ahead and move this pick for Love. I could see them wanting Varejao bc he has one year left and then has a team option after that. I could also see them wanting Zeller bc they would have him on a friendly contract for 3 more seasons.

Its just really hard to give up on TT. However I see the benefit of Love in Cleveland. Maybe we could keep TT as our 3rd big. Depending on how desperate Min gets, we may stand a chance.

However, looking at Min cap sitauation, they can decline to pick up options on 2 players then resign Pek for 10 mil and be right at the salary cap. I could see them getting desperate to dump Kirilenko if they want to improve more, but theyll probably stand pat.

It'd take A LOT more than Varejao and picks.. A lot...

I'd look at the James Harden deal as a basis for what it'd take..

I'd say Tristan, this year's pick, a future Cavs 1st and probably the Grizzlies/Kings 1st...

I really don't think it would take as much as you're implying. Simply because it's clear that they have two choices, trade Love or let Pek walk. They're in a bind and really don't have a ton of leverage because of it. We likely would have to give up one of our "big 3" and probably a pick. I don't think it would take 3 first rounders plus Tristan/Dion. I don't really think Love is worth all of that in the best of circumstances. He's a good player, not worth that ransom though.

I also doubt Tristan is traded to anyone. By all accounts the front office absolutely loves the guy. He's a leader in the locker room and works harder than basically everyone else.

Except signing role players and eating up cap space is one of the things that has helped put Minnesota in their currently awful situation. Maybe you can get Budinger on the cheap, but that's doubtful, and Kirilenko is just a shell of his former self.
I wouldn't want ak47 for a long long time, but his PER was great this year. He's not a shell.

His PER was decent, but he used to be an absolute freak. He's nowhere close to the player he used to be, but he's still making a ton of money.

If you have a chance to get Kevin Love than you make every effort to get him unless it gets completely outrageous. We're talking about a highly productive proven star player who will still only be 25 before next season. He's exactly the type of high quality long term piece you'd be hoping to get with all the assets you've been accumulating.
Let's remember Love averaged 20 & 15 in 2010-11 and 26 and 13 in 2011-12. He also had PER's over 24 and 25 in those seasons. He's even become an improved defensive player.

If you have to give up either Tristan or Dion in a deal than I still do it. The Love injuries don't bother me. The hand shouldn't be any long term issue and the knee was an arthroscopic procedure which is very common among athletes. It wasn't a major injury or procedure.

Either Pek or Love would be incredible for this team. Sign me up.
