So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I seriously cannot understand where this Korver is a bad defender meme is coming from. I don't have fancy stats but I have watched every minute Korver has played since being here and he often looks like one of our better defenders on the court. Certainly not someone who needs hidden at all

You want to know why our second unit is a disaster? We have Frye playing the 5 and he's been cold lately. He absolutely bleeds points out on defense so when he's not hitting shots opponents can run up the score in a hurry picking on him

Channing is not a 5. Him playing 5 has to be close to defensive treason

Totally agree on this based on the three recent Cavs games I saw on national tv (Blazers, Warriors, and Spurs). In all three of those games, Korver competed hard and contested shots (though he made some unnecessary fouls). But the Cavs defense in those stretches was sunk because of a total lack of rim protection. I also don't know why the Cavs have suddenly started hedging hard like they are the 2011-2014 Miami Heat.

This team needs another playmaker and more defensive minded guys. Korver is seeming rather redundant when jr comes back. Our second unit is a disaster because we can't find a place to hide Korver.
What? So the second unit wasn't a disaster before Korver?

Actually no. We had some really good bench lineups that included frye, dunleavy, shump and LeBron. Last years was no doubt better.

I do like the plays we run with Korver and LeBron which is essentially the play that killed the Raptors over and over using Korver's gravity as the driving action to get LeBron in the decision making mode although LeBron is being guarded for the pass now and he is playing into the hands of the opponents when doing so.

There are a few things to like about this move it's really moreso that our offense isn't that good anymore for whatever reason. Our defensive rating since December is 12th overall with less than a point from being a top 10 defense. Our offensive is around 10 in that span which is quite a bit different than what we'd come to expect from a team with the weaponry that we have.

But if you go from Jan. 5th (around when the trade was agreed upon in principle), our offense has been 23rd in the league and our defense has been 20th in the league. Quite simply, we haven't been good on either end. There is a lot to figure out, that is for sure. Maybe that's the fun in it.

So we didn't need to hide Dunleavy?

I'm just going to go ahead and say that your take on Korver's defense is wrong, particularly if you're telling me, and it seems you're telling me, that Dunleavy isn't a weaker defender. Just not the case.

Dunleavy is actually strong at defending the three ball. If you noticed he always contested threes. He's a stronger defender than Korver @priceFTW said as much as well. While you weren't going to put Dunleavy on an elite player I don't think he needed to be hidden.

Not with Lebron in it wasn't. It was actually a top 4 or 5 lineup in the NBA. Frye/LBJ/Jefferson/Dunleavy/Shump lineup was successful almost every time it was trotted out. Kyrie would sub in early in the 2nd so the unit didn't have much extended time together. After JR went down, Lue stopped going to this lineup and played James the entire 1st quarter.

But at a time when no line-up are working, it seems silly to single out one guy in one line-up. Two games in a row LeBron has had the highest minus on the team. LeBron lineups aren't even working at the moment, and I don't think most of it is a personnel issue. We have holes, but what's going on right now is far more than that.

The rotations are the one thing we currently control. I don't think it is a surprise that we started shuffling units and our team has suddenly gone to shit.

The reason the second unit worked relatively well was because we had two guys who could independently run a P&R or attack the rim on a swing pass. Now we have one (LeBron). Defending guys that just generally stand around and wait to catch a pass (JR, Korver, Liggins, Frye) is not that hard, especially when LeBron hasn't been great at handling the ball. Just sag off the P&R action, don't leave shooters and watch us stagnate over and over.

We need to move Shump back to the second unit and let Korver start. Shump has individually been great as a starter but it has now shifted our second unit in to the unplayable category. This only makes sense if we're showcasing Shump for a trade. If we aren't, he needs to go back where he makes more sense.

Right now we're doing things from a coaching perspective that are compounding any personnel issues there are with JR out. We played 1.5 years with relatively consistent rotations and lineups and now we seem to just be throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

So, LeBron lineups aren't working...based on a two game sample? lol

Just glad it's not Kyrie.. fucking hell can you imagine the board?

"KYRIE CAN'T LEAD THE TEAM... WE NEED LAWRY!! ISAIAH>KYRIE!! RUBIO IS SO MUCH BETTER!! KYLE KORVER IS BETTER!! DELLY IS BETTER!! INSERT GUARD HERE IS BETTER!! WAH!!"

Brings up an interesting thought. Moving Korver into the starting lineup means the offense will have to involve more motion. Because that's how he gets his shots.

Ah, I see what you did there. Well played. One might say subtle even....

"The comment about the organization being complacent I think is really misguided," Griffin said. "Organizationally there is absolutely no lack of clarity on what our goal set is. We are here to win championships and there is no other solution, there is no other outcome that is acceptable and there never has been. But in terms of the on-the-court complacency, I've seen a lot of that."
