So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"The comment about the organization being complacent I think is really misguided," Griffin said. "Organizationally there is absolutely no lack of clarity on what our goal set is. We are here to win championships and there is no other solution, there is no other outcome that is acceptable and there never has been. But in terms of the on-the-court complacency, I've seen a lot of that."

Griffin's meaning:
:fight (2):
Missing more than 17 FT's in that loss last night adds to that statement...

Griffin showing real mental toughness & fortitude challenging the worldview of King James.

Takes even more balls when Griffin knows he's on a lame duck contract...

Why is it that everyone says LeBron is the GM only when shit is going wrong like this? People wait for problems and then say oh its because LeBron is making all these moves or because LeBron got all these guys contracts.

If this is the case than LeBron deserves even more credit for the Cavs winning last year. He's an absolute genius and should be ranked above Jordan since he not only played great but also put the team together.

Personally I don't give LeBron GM credit when shit is good and I dont hate on him for shit like that when things are going wrong. It just annoys me that people only bring it up when there's problems with the team.

Griffin deserves the praise for putting the winning team together and Griffin has to take some blame if he can't build a championship roster this year. Obviously it's tough to beat a ridiculously stacked team like Golden State but thats the way it goes. Its crazy hard for the players themselves to be able to compete with GS but they're going to have to take the blame even though its kindve out of their control so Griff should too.

What? Everytime when Griff made great trades like JR/Shump then no one, I mean NO ONE said it is because of Griff, but because of LeGM James. It works both ways.

No...only uninformed people do that.

I and many other posters on this site praised Griffin specifically for the deadline deals the previous two seasons. He has gotten a lot of praise when it was deserved.

On the other hand, this current season and previous offseason I’ve been unhappy and more critical with Griffin’s decisions.

I personally don’t care if LeBron has input in personnel decisions...he’s the undisputed leader of the team and things should be run by him. But at the end of the day, David Griffin has the final say on who gets roster spots or not and the buck stops with him.

I like what Griffin said. It's true that there has been a lot of on-the-court complacency. When you have two games in a week where you barely shoot 50% on free throws and go to overtime only to lose in BOTH those games? You've got practice problems, and you've got guys who think they can just roll the ball out there and win. AND you have a coach who's not instilling the discipline during practices. Now, this roster is hardly perfect, but Griffin has done a good job managing things overall. Well enough to get a championship, which is far more than has ever happened here before, regardless of LeBron being on the roster. We need Griff to shore up some small parts of the roster, but, boy, we need PLAYERS to show up and care about playing the right way every day, regardless of whether that achieves a win or not. I can forgive losses, but not lack of good play.

LeBron will get what he wants. Griffin has to publicly challenge him but ultimately I think LBJ has all.but guaranteed that we make another trade. If the Cavs do nothing and we don't win a title, Griffin will be the fall guy and Gilbert will look really bad as well. LBJ played his hand and he's gonna win the pot.

I think some of the frustration on the part of lebron right now is that there are some differences between what he and griffin think the team needs. I think that lebron sees the lack of defense and rim protection as a failing of the personel, and that we need a playmaker so lebron doesnt have to spend so many minutes on the court/with the second team. I think griffin sees the lack of defense as an effort problem. Griffin has also stated that he likes us playing small. I think griffin wants a playmaker for the same reason lebron does, but I dont think he thinks a rim protecting big is all that necessary. I think I tend to agree with lebron in saying that we need a rim protecting big so that we can become more flexible in our lineups.

Exactly right.

Griffin had to make the public statements that he did in order to keep up appearances. But deep inside, you know he's happy that LBJ is helping loosen the Gilbert's purse strings.

This will all be for the best.

And remember...winning solves everything. This will all be a distant memory once we have our first winning streak after the All Star break.

Finals. Game Seven. 21-25 for 84%.
Tonite "Champ" Bricks THREE straight FTs?
Felder hit 1-4 FTs?

Just WTF is Lue doing at Practice?

I agree that the defense/rim protection is a personnel issue. This team has always had big gaps in that area that we counted on Lebron to make up. It's unfair and impractical and dangerous to ask Lebron to bust his ass constantly in the regular season to plug those gaps, so I don't think it's an "effort" issue when he doesn't wear his superman cape every single regular season game. Maybe it's effort on Kyrie's part, given that he looks better defensively in the playoffs, but he is injury prone so there might be some risk in him going at 100% in the season too.

KLove does try but he is physically limited.

I honestly don't feel they can do much but wait for the buyout market.
