So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dude is signing back. He brought the team the new trophy puzzle and enjoyed it. Now if he was distant and wasn't in the picture I'd think something is up and he's out. No reason to believe Griff won't be back here unless something this season rubbed him the wrong way completely. (Which could be)
I made a post a couple weeks back in this thread detailing exactly why Griffin would leave.

It doesn't mean that Griff doesn't like it here or the organization, but people really underestimate how demanding being GM of this team is. Anything less than a championship, and people will start pointing fingers in your direction. You're directly responsible in shaping the legacy of one of the greatest players to ever play the game. It's a tremendous amount of pressure, and now that he's seen some success by winning a championship, it actually does make some sense to bail before this turns into a no-win situation for him.

Plus, like I said, being offered the title of President and essentially overseeing the entire organization is a promotion.

I know nothing about the assistant GM (Trent Redden?). Though possibly premature, anyone have a couple bullet points or opinions about this guy?

I actually met him once, as he knew one of my buddies.

All I really know is that he did the traditional journey of starting as a low level scout under Ferry and working his way up. His original gig was scouting midwest colleges, and I think George Hill was one of the first guys he scouted and liked.

Kyrie for George hill confirmed.

If the Magic think they can convince Griff to leave this organization without some sort of massive dust up they got another thing coming

Is someone gonna beat em up?

What if Dan doesn't want Griffin back?

I honestly think a big part of what ends up happening here will be tied to how the playoffs go.

If we win a title, or if we even make the finals and at least compete with Golden State (6-7 game series), then I highly doubt he leaves.

If we lose in the 2nd round or ECF or even if we get completely annihilated by Golden State, that changes things, and I could very well see him leaving.

Id prefer him to stay though. He has good working relationships around the league. That is important for minimum contract guys, buyout guys, etc. And he has a good feel.for the pulse.of the team.

Axelrod posts here as The Common Man. He loves stirring the pot.
Both come off as a bit douchey :chuckle:

Seriously, why couldnt we offer Griff the same position & money? The only reason I could see him wanting to leave is that people doubt his abilities because Lebron. At the end of the day, he will get his shot without him, why move on from what will probably be the best times in anyones career?

Don't understand why anyone would willingly get off the Lebron train. Do you really want to trade being at the center of the championship discussion every year for the dreary job of trying to rebuild a crappy team? Plus Griffin clearly doesn't like drafting players or even having draft picks, so not sure why he would enjoy a rebuilding situation.

I don't know anything about Griffin's personal life other than that he's married. But if the Cavs end up putting an offer on the table comparable salary-wise to what Orlando is offering, then family-life stability could play a pretty big role depending on his priorities.

so not sure why he would enjoy a rebuilding situation.

I mean that was his responsibility when he first accepted our GM job before LeBron came back...he turned down GM offers from other teams before that. So it's not like he's against rebuilding teams.
