So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol this cant be real.

He's a classic chucker. The ball touches his hands and there's a better than 50% chance its not being passed again. Makes him very easy to play against.
he's only a "chucker" if he's not the best option on the floor and shoots it anyway. He is a microwave...& I think given the lack of players on this roster that can get their own shot there is no reason to put a negative label on a player for being themselves in a system that wants each player to be just that.
I see a lot of improvement with his passing ability going forward , he's already keeping his head up more and has made some nice dimes in the pre season suggesting he will have a more expanded role than just the microwave scorer he has always been asked to be.
Seems like an awful lot of people like to be critical of players that can do more with the ball in their hands than the types that need plays run for them.

He has a .527 TS% which is on the absolute cusp of average. For every microwave moment there's a chucker moment or two. His post season numbers, while a small sample of 19 games, are really bad. The eye test shows he just isn't cut out to contribute in that style of play. So average becomes trash.

I guess someone needs to play the games but fuck.

Check out Cedi's advanced numbers :bigshock:

JR was also considered a chucker for most of his career, but he had earned the respect of James for his fearlessness in taking hard shots. He was useful during the run for the ring, his last series notwithstanding.

I think JR might have earned LBJ's respect when he started playing good defense.

It seems that Clarkson is the most divisive player of all time.

he has to play with hill all the time... sexton-clarkson is a disastrous pairing..

I am not aware JR played defense in the knicks.. when we traded for him, I was puzzled.. he was known as a chucker, selfish player. But alongside James he played defense and was often a target for an assist from the King..

Last year Clarkson was tied for third best in opp PER behind Hill and Korver according to 82 games and he was a much better defender at shooting guard than at point..

All I am saying is that Clarkson is not the problem on this team.. TT? Well yeah probably a problem..

Sure, Clarkson isn't as bad as TT, but I'm not sure that really proves anything.

Here's the real question:

Which players do we see as part of the Cavs long-term player development, and which players are likely to be traded or cut in the near future?

Clarkson is clearly in the trade or cut category of players. I think we're all hoping that he's improved enough that we'll be able to trade him for (1) another pick or (2) as part of a deal for another younger player.

I think very few of us see Clarkson as a key part of the Cavs' long-term player development plans.

I dont think we have seen enough of the team as yet to make that judgement. This team may suck as bad as the ESPN pundits say, but right now we have exactly the same record as the Lakers. There were aspects of the raptor game I thought were good, but clearly if kevin is going to start out 1-8 we are going to be a lottery team.

We are not a scoring team. So that means we need to be able to play defense, which we really did not succeed at Wednesday.

I think Clarkson is not our worst problem at this point. He is still young and I think he is still improving. Our bigger decisions will be around Hill, JR, Korver, TT in terms of trades. I dont think any of them change much for the better. I think Hood is also on a pretty short leash, since that is an end of year decision at the longest.

The only clear keepers to me are Osman, Sexton, Love (for now) and Nance. And really nobody is off the table for the right deal.

But clarkson draws a lot of hot takes. And I dont think he in particular is standing between us and a W. He is not expensive, plays a couple of positions and brings scoring to the table which we sorely need, and he plays active defense. So I dont get the complaints.

I like Zizic, but I think he is a project. He may not fit with Lues vision of a fast agile team (a vision which I am not sure I am on board with by the way)

Clarkson can be maddening for me too when he gets tunnel vision, but I'm taking anything that happened last season -- be it playoffs or regular season -- and throwing it right out the window. LeBron is no longer here. I've watched LeBron James led teams long enough to know that there are some role players who thrive next to him (specialists who don't require the ball a lot) and those that don't (guys who need the ball in their hands).

Clarkson actually had a handful of good moments in the regular season with LeBron last year despite the fact that he is the opposite of what I'd think of as a "LeBron James system" player.

There was a time early in his career when Lakers fans thought he was the best young piece they had. I always believed they were mistaken, but I also don't think he is quite as useless (on a non-LeBron team) as he looked in the playoffs. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

He can get his own shot and can carry an offense for small stretches when he gets hot. That is useful. He just needs to be utilized the right way in the correct lineups and not leaned on too much.

I'm not completely ready to give up on the guy as a rotation piece.
