So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sure, Clarkson isn't as bad as TT, but I'm not sure that really proves anything.

Here's the real question:

Which players do we see as part of the Cavs long-term player development, and which players are likely to be traded or cut in the near future?

Clarkson is clearly in the trade or cut category of players. I think we're all hoping that he's improved enough that we'll be able to trade him for (1) another pick or (2) as part of a deal for another younger player.

I think very few of us see Clarkson as a key part of the Cavs' long-term player development plans.
Don't agree with that given the pace they are beginning to implement. It's going to allow players like Clarkson and Thompson have a much better season than playing Lebron ball. Clarkson can create for himself which is a weakness among most of this roster so unless you find someone who can catch and shoot at a higher % but can also create for himself Clarkson isn't going anywhere for now. Clarkson is not a catch and shoot wing, again he needs the ball to get his rhythm and now that he is keeping his head up more trying to expand his game looking more for cutters & options to dish it instead of concentrating only on scoring and often forcing tough shots ( which he often makes) I would not be shocked if he replaced Hill as the backup pg once Sexton takes over the starting pg job after the deadline trades of Hill and likely Korver.

What indication so you have that he is keeping his head up?

In the pre-season you could see he was making a concerted effort to be more aware of what his teammates are doing and he is slowly beginning to earn their respect as a team player as it's clear to me Lue wants him to be more than just the microwave scorer he has been throughout his short career. Korver was quoted somewhere as saying pretty much noone in practice has been able to shut him down either so when he needs to go out there and be that microwave they want him to do just that.

29 shot attempts to 1 assist(attempt) in 2 games. This dude.

He can definitely score when he has this green light, but he needs to be challenged to expand his game, which is good for numbers but not good for you know, winning.

You don’t have issues with the zero defense he played (or ever plays)?

Yeah it was a problem. In his defense no one really played D tonight.
They had a spurt or two when it was ok.

He takes so many mid range shots that even when he's hot he can't get his efficiency up high enough to make for the fact that his teammates don't score when's he's in the game and he's sucks on D. Your simply not going to win with him which is I guess why's he' on the team

160 games to go

As a long time Clarkson hater, I am ready to give him some credit. I still hate the way he plays but he is not your classical chucker :). He has a very smooth shot and does produce points while practically fucking everything up. But our second unit is so shitty that I started to think that Clarkson is the answer!
Let him go to offense by himself and the rest of the team be ready for defense. He is not going to pass the ball anyway. Of course you should not do it very explicitly, having the other four guys on your half. They should just be ready to run back immediately when he has the ball. And do not waste any of the solid guys in line-ups with him.

I am also going to try to track his stats personally and post it here.

I might sound sarcastic but I am truly honest in saying that he is kind of special and not a chucker.

So in 2 years of 82 games there is 164 games. Subtract the 2 and you get 162 games to go.

Sorry, but I hate bad math, lol

EVen when he scores I get pissed. I just can't anymore. He makes me ruin things, so whenever I watch the Cavs I take all my shit off the table.

Wow, never hated watching a player as much as I hate watching Clarkson. Him and Dekker are pretty close, but Dekker is just a bad basketball player; Clarkson has a bad brain.

He always wants the defender on his hip, but it sucks when he waits for him to catch up. A lot of times he could put the speed on and be at the rim himself, but it seems like he needs the defender there so he can shoot a semi contested shot

Even if Clarkson scores 20+ points I am not a fan of his game. He does not make his players better on the court. Many times there were PnR with Zizic but Clarkson's tunnel vision limits his passing into the post. He either sees him too late when the defender recovers or does not see him at all. And he finally made a pass underneath late in the game but it was to TT who was not expecting the ball. His decision making is very frustrating.

Clarksons role is to score points and push the ball.

Clarkson is playing at a 108.59 pace
He creates spacing on the dribble.

Defensively Clarkson doesn't seem to know how to slow a guy down from full speed.

He isn't a catch and shoot guy and he needs 3-6 dribbles to shoot effectively.

don't agree this season that that assessment is accurate. Historically I agree to some extent esp the tunnel vision ( and that is all he was asked to do here last season anyway, not facilitate)
This season he still is being asked to score first ,but he is also expanding his role as a facilitator and it's his teammates that need to keep up with him. I saw a couple occurrences where a big was out of position clogging JC drive to the hole then made it worse not moving to the correct position to get the pass from him when he lost his dribble because of the bigs first mistake, and noone else came to the ball forcing him to throw a bad pass.He would have been better off just dribbling out of it and shooting a circus shot given those facts which is often the case.
