So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Agreed that he doesn't seem to fit out there now when LeBron is on the floor. He seems geared to run quick-hitting plays, whether for himself or teammates, and there's not much for him to do when LeBron wants to slow things down. They haven't designed much for him and LeBron to do in tandem. I'm surprised that other teams haven't done that much to take advantage of his size on defense, but perhaps that's not stuff they prioritize during the regular season.

No one really zeroes in on role players during regular season anyway.

I think his defense will always be an issue but it can be hid well imo. He is ok at fighting through the screens. Being small he would also get the advantage of being a bit more physical compared to other players.

Felder and LeBron getting on the same page will really help things. Could take some time, though.

Hoping he continues to improve his 3-point shot. As you and Viper said, that will help him a great deal in playing with LeBron, as well.

Here are the stats on Kay tonight, by quarter.

============================
1st -----> 0/2/0 on 0-2 FGA in 1 minute
2nd -----> 2/2/1 on 0-3 FGA in 6 minutes
============================
3rd -----> DNP
4th ------> 7/1/0 on 3-6 FGA in 9 minutes
============================

Strong down the stretch and I'm glad Lue went with him late (Felder started the 4th, sat from 5:31 left until 2:44 left in the 4th, and then came back in and finished out the game).

Definitely hope he can get more time with LeBron.

The Bulls targeted him hard on defense. They seemed to want to get Butler isolated against Felder on switches, and if they could not get that then they were just giving the ball to Felder's man down low.

Tonight was another step forward for him. Especially good that he could come back from a tough first half and finish the game well.

Liked that he stayed aggressive even though he was missing shots early on.

I think to gain minutes on this team he will have to figure out how to play with LeBron and Kyrie off the ball but I see a lot of value with his on ball skills. It drives down LBJ and Kyrie's minutes in the regular season to have someone else who can run the offense consistently. If they can get him 12+ minutes of play on the ball, I think that will help the team long term. It will also help the team play more consistently when down players or nights guys get rest. I like the idea of Felder being the player who is more comfortable playing without LeBron on the court than with him.

Yeah. I really hope he can get in sync with LeBron, but that might take awhile. If he plays when LeBron is off the court, ok.

My goal for him is to be able to lead a bench unit that can have a plus/minus of +00. Just so we don't lose leads that the starters get. Not sure that will happen this year, though.

I'm optimistic about him and I'm glad he's taking steps forward, and I'm happy that the coaching staff is slowly giving him a bit more of a chance.

He's really quick with the ball, and since he's got such explosive leg strength, he can really accelerate quick.

When he's taking it to the cup, he's really hanging up there in the air, allowing him to adjust.

Seeing a man so small out there, when he's floating near the rim, you wouldn't think he could duck under and get the ball to the other side of the glass for the spin.

He's an interesting player to have available, he just needs to have layup contests vs Kyrie and learn some of that secret sauce.

This should really be the goal for him for this season and next. I'm not sure when he becomes a 20+ minute player but the majority of his minutes should come with LeBron off the floor and him on the ball. Maybe him and Dunleavy can be the two players that aren't Lebron-centric and thrive when LeBron isn't playing.

When they pulled Felder and went back to McRae, I had a bad feeling. The offensive momentum almost instantly shifted.

They certainly did take their time attacking Felder on D, but they also got plenty of action going against Frye and McRae too.

The Bulls kept pumping it into Lopez to start the half, and it seems like every reversal or dumpdown saw Frye a step late.

It's a price we must pay with Frye on the floor that can often be hidden with good, attentive help defenders alongside him, but playing against starters is a whole different ballgame.

Kay had a mixed game. Started off poorly and very restless but was better as the game went on. Was possibly our best player late in the 3rd and early 4th when we cut down the lead to 1 point.

I would say in the last few games he has shown that he can be valuable contributor for us. May not be in the immediate future but possibly in a year or two may be. But the key will be how much he can improve his 3-point shooting. You need to be a solid 3-point shooter or a good defender at the very least to play with LeBron.
To me, it's a major step to fail in one way and come back in the next time and succeed in another way attacking a defense.

The jumper wasn't falling, so he went to the rim and finished in traffic. He also has that ability to find his teammates in advantageous scoring positions. I liked the bounce pass to Tristan and a couple setups around the arc for shooters like Frye and Jefferson.

Some good things to build upon, though. Even if he's only a 10-15 minute option as the 9th/10th guy in the rotation this year and sits in the playoffs, he's keeping the odometer down on Kyrie and LeBron a little.

I can't say I was uninterrupted watching this game, but I am just not seeing a positive impact from Felder right now. Did he have moments that looked better than McCrae? Sure, McCrae is defending horribly, but I feel like we are trying to feel better about rotten tomatoes by comparing them to rotten fish.

The Bulls crowded LeBron on offense to force passes to Felder, and Felder is easy to defend right now.

Everyone knows he is going to look for his own shot. Everyone knows he can't finish at the rim. Everyone knows he doesn't pull up enough and doesn't have a floater yet. His partially blocked layups and wild layups that had no chance of going in seemed to give the Bulls defense energy.

Maybe he deserves a spot in the rotation eventually, but right now he looks like one of the worst second PGs in the league by a wide margin.

LeBron took away the momentum from Kay! That offensive foul just killed the run.

Which is exactly why he should be spending every off day in the d league working. He's not gonna get better playing limited minutes and only marginally better in practice. He needs real life game action and that should be in the d league.

So you missed the fourth-quarter when Kay brought the Cavaliers back to within two points of the Bulls without Lebron, Kevin or Kyrie?

Do you feel he is consistent enough to be in the rotation? It's hard for me to care about two good minutes when he was bad in the first half and bad when they lost that momentum.

Actually, forget that I asked any questions. I'm not here for a debate against the Devil's Advocate. I'm here to discuss reality.

His burst and 1st step is freakish. Just wait until he knows how to use it in the NBA along with the stop and go. I think he might be faster than Kyrie in 1sr step, burst and stop and go.
