So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Felder is a dice role by whoever picked him. At 54 overall, statistical you don't expect much. If you get to trade him for a pick or a better fit player some day, then you win. I think Kay has outperformed his pick already.

As for the roster spot. The issue was created by Moe's selfish decision and Dunleavy's suckiness.. They became important because of the injuries to birdman, Jr and Kyrie.. MCrea is expendable and he is not guaranteed. So he is out.. Griffin has replaced Dunleavy with Korner, he could replace Mo
with Mario Chalmers, and still release McRae to pick up a big. That is rock star level GM work...

The media reported that Mo Williams's knee was bone on bone during the playoff run. I am pretty sure Windy mentioned it or Jason Lloyd, can't remember. But after the season, I felt immediately that the Mo situation might play out like it did. It made financial sense for him to screw the team over before retiring, even if it burned every bridge. So, I can't pretend that the shallow depth at point guard was in any way a surprise.

That said, it's probably not ALL Felder's fault, he didn't decide any of this. I'll take that point to heart. I still don't believe his ceiling is as high as many others believe it to be, and it's on him to prove me wrong.

His ceiling doesn't have to be high. If he can consistently provide what we've already seen from him in short flashes here and there, I'll be ecstatic.

No, on the Cavaliers his ceiling does have to be high. Lue, LeBron, and every beat writer covering their quotes everyday are pounding the table for a backup point guard. They are simply anything but ecstatic.

You're not wrong, but if you watched LBJ when he mentioned still needin a PG, he specifically mentioned Felder, and said we need a 3rd PG.

LeBron has done nothing but praise Felder.

This is NOT an indictment of Felder, but rather its an acknowledgement that we can't wait for him to develop and need an additional PG for THIS season.

At which point, we probably stash Felder in the D league. You are making these things mutually exclusive, and they are not. Felder can continue to improve as an asset for this team, and we can still need a PG for this season. Both can be (and are) true.

So what you are saying is that LeBron has nothing but praise for a rookie backup as long as he isn't in the rotation. I think you just highlighted what a gentleman LeBron is rather than the quality of Felder's play.

That's NOT what LBJ said. Did you watch the video?

Subtext, dude.

Read the quotes from Jason Lloyd, but what do you expect LeBron to say about teammates? He never throws anyone under the bus, especially young players. He rallied the team around Joe Harris in the 2015 playoffs for crissakes.

Meanwhile, Kyrie had to play 35 minutes against the worst team in the NBA while Felder rocked four minutes. Wake up fellas...

Look, Felder has clearly shown potential against NBA talent. If you want to ignore that because he isn't fully developed, fine. But just because he could use more time doesn't make him worthless. He's a rookie. They all need time.

But if your argument is that he doesn't have talent or potential then you're wrong.

I think the addition of a backup point guard is more about limiting minutes and adding defensive versatility than about Felder development and play so far. The offense operates better with two ball handlers on the floor with the ability for Kyrie and LBJ to switch on and off the ball. Felder hasn't learned to play well off the ball yet, I think he will figure it out.

Lue could push Felder's minutes up and hope by time the playoffs come he is up for the challenge. I think that is a unnecessary risk for this team to take. Adding a backup point guard is insurance as much as it allows Kyrie to take nights off without putting excess minutes and load on LBJ, or vise versa.

It also allows another look defensively, Shump doesn't have to guard top PGs exclusively if the backup PG is above average defensively. It just allows the Cavs to match up better if need be.

You would think against a team as bad as the Nets he could get some more time. Maybe against the Suns we can try him against Bledsoe.

I think he is starting to play his game and getting better acclimated to the pro game... liking his aggresiveness and passing... too bad he didn't get a lot of burn tonight when Kyrie and others were struggling and they needed a spark... I am kinda surprised that Kay is not abused so much on defense in his recent minutes....

I think they should have played him more against Utah. He was the only one able to penetrate.

Needs more playing time and needs to be on the ball. Let him play his game when he is out there, otherwise no point.
