What's GSW's answer to a Pau/Aldridge Spurs front court? They can't defend it. I suppose they could try and death lineup them off the court... someone who's smarter than me: is this easily defeated by GSW?
San Antonio will have a bitch of a time keeping GS from scoring. The Spurs cross-matches are going to be a nightmare because Aldridge and Pao are limited foot-speed defenders. While you can hide Pao or Aldridge on Iggy for spurts, you're still left with one of them on Draymond and over long stretches it just isn't sustainable.
I do think the Cavs laid out the formula for beating GS, which is bully ball on the block, heavy ISO against GS's weaker defenders, but playing at pace so ball doesn't "kill grass" as George Karl used to call it. You can rely heavily on ISO against GS, but you don't want the ball stuck in one spot wasting away shot-clock.
In terms of starting line-ups, I do like how the Spurs match-up. GS will start Zaza at center, and Draymond at the 4. It allows Pao to defend Zaza and Aldridge on Green which is still a tough cross-match but San Antonio will be able to exploit the paint.
Unfortunately, Tony Parker is a shell of what he was which is huge because it lets Steph off the hook. Kawhi can hang with Durant and Danny Green is still a solid defender who can play a role.
But over 7 games, I just don't see how the Spurs hang.
In terms of the West, and just a match-up problem, I think Portland might be the toughest match-up. Aminu is going to slide to the 4, with Evan Turner coming in as starting SF. Moe Harkless gave them a lot of defensive flexibility but was super-limited offensively. Turner gives them another ball handler in an open court offensive system which is helpful because the Trailblazers like to push at all costs. Harkless was a finisher but limited as a ball-handler and shooter. I just like their potential line-up of:
Lillard
McCollum
Turner
Aminu
Plumlee
Plumlee is also a good defender that allows Portland to switch a lot better than most teams.
