Also it's pretty rare to find a boxer at the pound.

I'm trying to fly Hannah to Ohio in May, but she's too crazy for the cabin.

Rare to find most pure breeds at the pound, and if you do it's typically because they have issues. Back when I still lived in Ohio and my roommate was looking into adopting a dog, we found this gorgeous adult German Shepherd. No good with other animals, though, and I already had Loki at that point so it was a no go.

Rescues get them a bit more frequently, although if you're looking for a pure breed puppy it's honestly just easier to go to a breeder. You can find them at rescues but it's tough.

Any idea how to get our dog to stop sulking? She still won't have anything to do with the new puppy.

How old is the first dog? Some dogs just get annoyed by puppies, and puppies are super annoying. I'd try walking them together daily. Short walks at first since you're not supposed to take puppies on longer ones (bad for their growing bones), but that's a good pack activity.

Hate apartment living. Really want to get a dog but just not happening as a renter. Especially with the breeds I'm interested in.

Emotional support animal - any dog qualifies. Renters must rent, cannot charge pet rent.
I'd love to get a puppy, but I live alone and work 40 hours a week Monday-Friday. How the fuck am I supposed to take care of a puppy in that circumstance? Seems impossible and it sucks.
I'm coming up on the same situation. You can get an independent dog, or be ready to shell out like 50-100 a week for doggy day care

Yea, but I want a larger breed (husky or malamute) that us not going to do well in a smaller space like that. And probably not being left alone 8-10 hrs a day either even if it was a dog fit for a small space.

Thought about a sheltie too but similar issues except they're smaller, yet make a ton of noise so probably piss people off. Although my neighbor has a dog that barks a ton, lol.

It takes time. We got our 2nd Frenchie recently (first dog is 4). They played together but the older dog ignored the new any other time and wouldn't even lay near him. Took a long road trip and they ended up bonding during that trip.

No need to force it, as long as unacceptable behavior like bullying or possessiveness is corrected, the older dog will likely come around in time. Like others have said, walking together is a good activity and also putting them on the same routine.

Not really sure why living in an apartment means you can't get a big dog, provided your apartment doesn't have dog size restrictions. Huskies typically aren't banned in apartments. It's usually Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Chows. One of my friends who used to live in my building had a Huskie here for like two years and he did fine. I have a Shepherd and a Boxer and they do fine.

I'm more referring to it being unfair to the dog, as huskies and malamutes would be much happier with larger spaces to move around and not being alone all day during the week.

Or anyway this is what I'm told.

I've certainly seen people even in my complex with huskies.

Chris - I own a husky and live in an apartment. She isn't overweight or anything. Actually a tad underweight. I just make an effort to get her exercise whenever I can. Dog parks are a godsend.

Rob - Puppy stage may be hard as they need some more attention, but owning a dog and working only 40 hours a week is certainly doable. Me/my girlfriend just put her in her crate before we leave for work and have no issues. Its not uncommon for people to put their dog in a crate when not home. Make getting into a crate a "happy" experience. I always grab a treat and mine runs right in her cage. She knows the routine. You could always look at adopting.

At Bow Wow beach in Stow last summer.

Are you gone during the day most of the time out of curiosity?

To both:

There are dogs that aren't gonna be cool with being crated all day five days a week.

Keep personality in mind when adopting . If you're going to a pound, ask the staff to help you out and tell them your situation and what you're looking for
