The General Terrorist Rampage Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The list of politicians and how much money they get from the NRA is crazy. These people getting their pockets lined by the gun lobby who are all, "My thoughts and prayers are with the victims" could be actually doing something about the problem, but that sweet, sweet cash in their coffers is more important than the lives of their constituents.

Not sure why you assume someone cannot hold a certain opinion unless the NRA is giving them money. After all, there are millions of NRA members who contribute, not receive, so clearly their opinions are honestly held, not bought.

My first question would be -- was there an armed guard at that school? If not, why not?

From what I've heard, there was a security guard (I would assume he was armed). The kid had a gas mask and smoke bombs and pulled the fire alarm and started shooting when the kids and teachers started coming out into the hallway. There was also confusion as they didn't know whether to go into lockdown or leave the facility as quickly as possible.

There should be a higher standard for being able to purchase so-called "assault rifles." Extreme vetting and mandatory training (which is really an excuse to make sure someone isn't nuts) as well as a waiting period. These weapons are designed for one purpose (and a few ancillary purposes) and making them more difficult to obtain is no infringement on the legitimate needs of gun-owners as other weapons more readily, and effectively, fill those needs.

Evidently this kid is a gun nut with a history of police intervention, threats and stalking. However, because he never committed a felony he could walk into any gun store and emerge with a very powerful weapon.

Because its a goddamn school, not a maximum security prision.

Fuck this new normalcy we have brought upon ourselves because gun owners need their rights...

But, you know, AR-15s should totally be sold to mentally sick 18 year olds. Because its our right. Or something.

it is very hard to stop an attack no one is expecting, especially when they seem to know their shit tactically.

I'd be shocked if anyone disagreed that we need more stringent gun laws.

It's the derpderp ban all weapons crowd that gets people going.

Even if we wanted to, doing a total 180 on 250 years of gun culture is just not feasible.

So what? I don't believe that innocent school kids are any less worthy of being protected against scumbags than are prison guards.

You obviously disagree.

Can we all hold hands, in a moment of solemn prayer?

Or just give a nice thought?

I really don't see why every school doesn't have 1-2 armed guards at this point. is it a money issue? People freaking out about guns being in the school? Both?

People that don't want to put security officers in schools are the same people that says we need to do something instead of offering tots and pears

Unless those guards are armed with comparable weapons, they stand little chance against someone with a semi-automatic military style rifle.

But still, it would be something. Better than nothing.

Hopefully this leads to a ban on bump stocks to end these tragedies once and for all.

I mean, like you said it'd be something...not every school shooting is from tactical geniuses with military weapons.

If it's that big of an issue, give the guards rifles. *shrug* Have them outside the school if it's that big of an issue having them inside.

Armed guards wont do shit against surprise attacks. And in some cases could do more harm than good.

Whatever. Guess when my wife and I have kids, they are going to be home schooled or something. This shit is getting out of control and no one plans of fixing the damn thing.
