The Jarvis Landry Thread: Bless 'Em

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry meant to type 8. It's 4 after catch. editing.

Sounds good to me. Going to kill teams on 3rd downs. Which is an area the Browns were woefully frustrating, at least to me, and one of the primary reasons I wanted to put railroad spikes through my balls every time I sat down to watch the team.

Should be nice having a guy to convert this and actually, you know, catch the ball.

8 was just for last year, by the way.

Jarvis Landry is currently the third highest paid receiver in the NFL in terms of guaranteed money.

Is he anywhere near the third best WR in football? No, but he's still a capable player and a very good slot.

Generally speaking "they can afford it" isn't a good justification for overpaying by 25%, but it is what it is.

I mean 3 years into his contract he’ll be the leagues 15th highest paid receiver.... are we acting like these players aren’t getting paid more and more each year that passes by?

Just so happens he got his contract this year.

15 guys had more 3rd down catches for 1st downs than Jarvis Landry last year. He was 7th overall in total 1st down catches. I think/hope he will have good chemistry with Tyrod Taylor though.

I'm really curious to see what Landry's yards per catch and yards after catch are going to be next season.

This doesn't even sound like a con. Sounds like a pro, to be honest. I've been starving for 20 years and you just put a three course meal in front of me. He was only 7th overall? Oh, no. :chuckle:

See this is the type of post I hate.

Way too much on this forum we dismiss people's opinions as just negativity and if you aren't for a move you would just complain about anything. I'm guilty of it. I think most people are if they're being honest with themselves.

Not a single person on here complained after we won the championship. We were all in glee. If we won a superbowl most of us would die from alcohol poisoning. Just broadly painting anyone with a negative take as just being negative isn't productive and it happens way too often.

One last aside: plenty of people were pissed about the Thompson deal and he was anything but a corpse at the time. He was one of the best players on the court for either team in the NBA Finals. People forget that.

Anyway, I was one of the people most critical of this move from the beginning. Once I found out the draft capital we gave up to get it done it made me like the deal more. I still don't think he's one of the most productive receivers in the NFL and I think people are just looking at the metrics they want to look at when determining that, but this move has grown on me to the point that I'm pretty neutral on it.

I love Landry's leadership coming in on day 1 and organizing workouts. This team desperately needs leadership. And that's something I didn't account for (mostly because I didn't know) when I first hated this move.

But just painting any negative take on something as people complaining just to complain is something that I think dilutes the quality of the discussion and sends it into personal attacks. And like I said, I'm guilty of doing the same... mostly to Rich. Who does often have good takes.
Ok

I'm really curious to see what Landry's yards per catch and yards after catch are going to be next season.

If Josh Gordon stays sober and healthy, Jarvis Landry is going to end up with like 75 catches for 800 yards and people are going to absolutely lose their minds.

I don't trust this fanbase to show any sort of nuance when it comes to WR volume.

It's the same morons who try and claim Terrelle Pryor was an elite WR for putting up 1,007 yards on 140 targets.

It's funny you are hating on people for thinking that about TP but ignoring that Landry put up 987 yards on 161 targets

Josh Gordon is the exact reason I DONT like giving Landry 15 per season. His value to us is that of a WR2. There are plenty of good WR2s that can be drafted and cost 1/3 of the price.

In the end, I hope he performs well enough and our offense is killing it.. I just hope his contract doesn't bite us in the ass.

The post wasn't meant as a con. It was conTEXT. It was to point out that he is not necessarily a 3rd down specialist, though I couldn't find data on the previous years, which would have been useful. Being 16th in 3rd down catches for 1st downs is fine, but 15 teams had guys better at it than he was. To me that is not particularly worthy of enormous praise or expectations.

7th overall in 1st downs is quite good, though.

I get it.

With a guy averaging 8-12 yards per reception, I think he'd get people excited about having someone to catch the ball on 3rd down. Regardless of how many times that possibility presented itself to him last year on another team with a different offensive coordinator and quarterback.

Maybe I'm just psyched to have someone that catches the ball period.

Idk....I feel hard to damn Landry based on his play with Tannehill being the best QB he played with.

I think Taylor is much better than Tannehill, so I would expect he would thrive next year and could see his average uptick quite a bit. And as long as we don't take Allen, Landry should continue to be productive.

No qualms really.
