The Military Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Will definitely keep this in mind, as I am interested to see how things play out, given the new administration's attitude towards not just Russia, but international federations (NATO, UN, etc.) as a whole.

Sadly, I think if we end up doing any essay writing here at OCS, it will probably end up being based on Once An Eagle. :( :chuckle:

Have they made you guys watch the Little Round Top scene from Gettysburg yet? BAYONETS!

I wish... only videos they show us here are SHARP, EO, and resiliency training videos haha

Sadly we've already passed Gettysburg in our history class. Exam and phase up inspection on Friday. Can't believe how fast it's going now.

My international security class this week was focused on the dialogue between an "old age" vs. "new age" of war. It was this idea of a "New Wars" thesis. Essentially, after a certain point, the way we have fought and why we fight wars has changed.

I lean towards thinking this is a bit false. Think about the wars in Africa in the 20th century, a lot of those were based off of and continue due to pre-existing conflicts. And for as much as people talk about how civilians are now victims of war, I feel like there were a ton of civilians killed in the U.S. war in the Philippines in the early 20th century.

But anyways, we just read a few texts, and I'm no military expert. Frankly, I don't read/follow the literature as much as I should. Thankfully, I know a bunch of you on here do. So give me your thoughts. Are we in a new age of war or is it more of the same with new technology? Or something else?

Due to the poorly planned/executed raid in Yemen, the country has suspended the US from further commando missions.

Remember when a vote for Trump was a vote for being respected again around the world?

I would say Trump is on his way to receive the Obama Drone Strike Nobel Peace Prize.

Should tell you just how poorly planned Trump's first few weeks have been in this regard.

It's taken you no time at all to compare him to the politicians you hate most.

Standing up for what's right, have to respect that.

EXCLUSIVE: Deployed US Navy Has A Pregnancy Problem, And It’s Getting Worse

A record 16 out of 100 Navy women are reassigned from ships to shore duty due to pregnancy, according to data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group.

That number is up 2 percent from 2015, representing hundreds more who have to cut their deployments short, taxing both their unit’s manpower, military budgets and combat readiness. Further, such increases cast a shadow over the lofty gender integration goals set by former President Barack Obama.

Overall, women unexpectedly leave their stations on Navy ships as much as 50% more frequently to return to land duty, according to documents obtained from the Navy. The statistics were compiled by the Navy Personnel Command at the request of TheDCNF, covering the period from January 2015 to September 2016.

The source documents confirm it's a shitload.

This is kind of a deep, dark, secret that nobody wants to discuss publicly, but it is a major issue. Truth is, troops have done all sorts of stuff throughout history to get out of deployments, war zones, or bad situations. It's why deliberately harming yourself to get out of combat is a court-martial offense.

But pregnancy is a get out of jail free card for any woman who wishes to use it. Maybe a lot of guys would do the same if Mother Nature gave them that option, but it didn't. Having a significant part of the deployment force be female opens us up to being literally decimated - or worse -- before a shot is fired.

maybe they just like having unprotected sex on shore leave.

Which doesn't change the bottom line one bit. It's less of a problem with officers or enlisted who are aiming for careers, but for non-career enlisted who have much less of a disincentive to miss a deployment, it's a real problem.
